Carl Craig's done a lot of great stuff. He made a great deep house track in As Time Goes By and then there's his remix of Cesaria Evora's Angola that blows my mind; it's like african rhythms and vocals, with detroit techno beats. It should not be able to exist as a functioning piece of music.

I like Moodymann, alot! I'll have to check out Parrish. I've heard alot of promising things.

Update: "Just Another Day" is good. Good for lounging. I don't find it dance friendly. "At les" and "Green Smoke" are others worth mentioning.

I had the opportunity to listen a handful of detroit techno tunes. The sound has become very distinct to me now. But it also seems a bit outdated. Every track I listened to, reminded me of early to mid 80's. I kept thinking of Herbie Hancock.

What I listened to, I just couldn't imagine a DJ spinning in a club. If he did, it would be low, low occupancy.

Tracks I listened to:

Rhythim is Rhythim - Feel surreal (subconscious mix)
Underground Resistance - Living for the night (Saunderson mix)

Reese Project - The Color of Love (Underground Resistance mix)

Sorry if those weren't the right track names, my ITunes box is tiny.

I enjoyed these, but again, they felt outdated. A chopstick told me he listens to older dance music because there is so much emphasis on detail. This does make sense.

I guess I'm just searching for something more modernized and dancefloor friendly. Does that exist with Detroit Techno? Or are its years already outdone?

But Detroit Techno isn't dead, it's just past its prime. If you ask me.

Yes, I do. That and Ahnongay definately seemed more recent. I'm just confused. Listen to Carl Craig's 1995 EM. Maybe that was a different genre?

My mate played me a DJ Rolando mix the other day. I dont know the name but it was wicked stuff. It starts off with Jaguar then gets really deep and banging but still keeping lots of detroit sounds in it.. one of the best mixes ive heard... definitely not old school stuff

If you like that one, see if you can dig up his input in the Dj Kicks series. It may not have the best mixingskills, but the tracks are awesome!

Also check Kevin Saunderson's E-Dancer stuff and Stacey Pullen's Kosmic Messenger stuff.
