for all you TAs out there who havent seen Run Lola Run, I suggest you go see it. Anyone who has, post a review or something so people know to GO SEE IT!!!!!! Its the greatest "trance action" film ever! Aside from the amazing soundtrack, the cinematography is fantastic and the plot is just as impressive.

Run Lola Run was okay. I couldnt vouch to say it was really excellent. It was a great, new idea but the story really wasnt all that entertaining or deep ('impressive') as you said. The cinematography was pretty impressive, but it almost made me sick to realize how little of an attention span 90% of us MTV generation has. The cutting was a little overkill. There's a lot to be said for being able to keep a shot interesting for more than 2 seconds...late/

The new Pink Floyd 2cd set (I think) goes along with this movie and it is really trippy.. For all those who have seen the Wizard of Oz along with Dark Side... 2001 and the new album is much cooler and more "out there." (I am not sure what the name of the album is, i just saw it at a friends house the other day, if someone knows what it is tell me pls!).

Secondly, i cant believe I forgot American Beauty.. that movie is great!

Posted by SmellsExcellent on Dec-08-2001 17:52:

just checked it out... its the beginning of 2001 along with the Pink Floys song Echoes.. its bomb so go have a look

Amrican Beauty....Wow what a disappointment that was! It's unbelievably overrated. A BORING movie with a bunch of stereotypes and cliches..makes ya suffer 2 hours in order to enevtually tell ya "how beautiful life is"
waste of time, okay..mena suvari is some cute chick

Posted by Viceroy on Dec-09-2001 01:13:

With all this professional talk, I thought I'd mention that they are working on a sequel to it!!! YES!

I guess they are going to concentrate on Ms. Portman as the professional this time...which I can definitely see working out well, if done correctly.

Peace,
Steve

Dude, please show some respect. AB was by far the best movie of 2000 (or 1999 can't remember when it came out for sure) There was nothing wrong with that movie at all, so amazing...so chilling.

Peace,
Steve

american beauty is easily one of the only true quality pics to come out of the hollywood hype-mobile in many years...

a lot of gangster / scorsese / tarantino / bla bla bla fans on this board it seems.

anyone seen "hate" (la haine) ??

french film, absolutely brilliant - highly recommended...

Do you think that NOT being from America could have anything to do with you not liking that movie? I digress that I dont know any comparable Austrian movies, but I prolly wouldnt think they were special either. Personally American Beauty is a much better movie that I even thought it would be. Very subtle and clever. As scary as it is, they arent really stereotypes, more like characters that imcorporate many popular issues in America. late/

Posted by hypronix on Dec-09-2001 01:41:

I just recalled a great movie.. Bad Boys (w/ Will Smit5h and Martin Lawrence, kick ass comedy)

Posted by ta_wilson on Dec-09-2001 02:34:

doods i saw some new movies worth mentioning....
From Hell- i dont know if i would call this a great movie but it was really interesting, about jack the ripper...jonny depp was the man in this though
Spy Game- definetly worth mention, Redford and Pitt make an awesome team in this
Behind Enemy Lines- WOW is all i can say. there were some cheesy part like when owen wilson ran about 50 metres with about half the bosnian serb army behind him firing, and lived with a few scratches on his face, but all in all this movie was amazing. the camera work was AWESOME, and the special affects were sweet, not to mention gene hackman, who rulez

thats my two cents

puuuhhh..hey didnt wanna hurt any1, it's just my opinion after all
I hate this attitude of "you dont like it 'cause u dont GET it" or shit like "look closer". Yes, i did look closer, close enough to stand behind my opinion no matter what others think. And what the fuck does that have anything to do with the fact im from Austrian and not America? lol..Look at my "top-movies" list ..i think all of them are american movies. It's just that during the entire 2 hours i felt like i've seen and heared such things before. How old is that subject of a man in his mid-life crisis, whos buying a porsche and flirting with 16 y.o's, a furstrated woman fucking around with rich businessmen and a depressed 16 year old daughter(16 and depressed? NO WAY)..An episode of "married with Children" is far more soial-critic and satiric than this "artwork". Ah and on top this homophobia issue...What is so american about those themes? do u think that Austrian men or Japanese women might not do the same? Its just the way those subject are dealt with....it IS hollywood.

actually coming from HOLLYWOOD, that movie, I felt was NON-HOLLYWOOD as we can get. Sorry you felt the movie was 2 hours of boredom. To each their own.

Personally I have no idea how I could have forgotten to mention the THREE "AMERICAN" movies as good onez as well

AMERICAN HISTORY X
AMERICAN PIE
and
AMERICAN BEAUTY

Smile

There are lots of movies I like out there but, I dont have any favorites cause I'm not a critic, I'm more into those big budget movies with a lot of bang, You know, Explosions, Chaos, Destruction type of stuff, Like Pearl Harbor, Even though the movie is a bit over 3 hours long, But on the DVD, You can skip over to chapten 20 when The Action is about to built up.

well you ARE entitled to your opinion. BUT...many of your facts are wrong in discussing the movie, no porsche, for example. the homophobia wasnt American, but the way it was approached for a major Hollywood movie was new. and saying that 'Married with Children' is more 'soial-critic', by this i assume you mean a more critical look on societal/family interactions in America, this is also absurd. MwC was a comedy TV show produced by upper class writers in America that completely FAIL to represent the working class in a respectable, and truthful way. if you believe THAT is what a typical American family is like, that is exactly why you didnt understand American Beauty.

No Porsche? Oh excuse me, a lamborgini or ferarri then..or some other SPORTS car (Do you base the rejection of my arguments on SUCH stupidities?)
"the homophobia wasnt American, but the way it was approached for a major Hollywood movie was new" not really, plus it was a bad approach, and is every homophobe NECESSARILY a gay himself? (im really asking you here, im not that sure about it)"MwC was a comedy TV show produced by upper class writers in America that completely FAIL to represent the working class in a respectable, and truthful way. " It isnt the show's intention though. It shall be a critical sharp SATIRE that breaks up with taboos. Of course American Beauty shows a more realistic example of the "avergage american family", it even tries to do it so precisely that eventually it ends up showing us a "more realistic" view on american stereotypes. Okay, if u like it i got no problem with it, i dont. Cause it fails to really shock, really surprise. I also think that the director himself didnt know what he wanted to produce..a tragical documentary? hommage to life? a satire on the american way of life? If it had been specialized more on a certain subject of the three above id prolly like it much more...if and if..whatever
You guys wanna see a movie that makes me cry like a baby?
Get Cinema Paradiso , an Italian movie from 1989....for me the top flick ever
