My point is victims should never be blamed for the situations placed upon them by criminals. Ms. Halloway's social standing or even lack thereof shouldn't be held agianst her either. It is almost like some of these posters are trying to say that it is OKAY for something this tragic to happen, like she deserved it because of who she was born too or raised by. In general to make a long post a little shorter, some people should really, at least try, to THINK before you write or say something stupid. If this doesnt apply to you, then don't worry about taking offense to it. If the shoe fits however, then it is my sincere hope that you do in fact think before posting. Thats my two cents for today.

I think the reason why people act negatively towards a story like this is because shit networks like Fox News had this as their lead story for a over a fucking month. Greta van Susteren has been in Aruba covering the story on her show everyday for forever. And NOTHING IS FUCKING HAPPENING. It has become a joke (much like the Terri Shiavo case) because it gets so much coverage but it hardly affects anyone except those involved. I can see how the Terri Schiavo case was somewhat relevant because it dealt with a controversial issue (right to life/death), but Natalie Holloway is just a missing girl who happens to be white, pretty and wealthy. Therefore the networks deem this more of a hot story because of who she is. There was a black woman from Richmond who went missing in Aruba 2 or 3 years ago but that got very little, if any, news coverage outside of Richmond.

I can see how people get attached to these stories because they are tragic and play out like soap operas. But I can also see how people get annoyed with the obnoxious amount and news coverage and turn that frustration into ridicule of the situation.

i pretty much agree. I know why they are still covering it. I mean if my company paid me to live on ibiza to report on a rock that sits there.. by all means i would have breaking news every other day. since the most part i'll be partying!

Lots of people get kidnapped or murdered or raped. But when a young, hot, sexy female from the states is kidnapped or murdered or raped, and I'm presumming she's upperclass, it makes national headlines.

And why?

Because it makes the media rich, because they simply recieve more viewers when reporting articals like this than some random story that happens everyday.

The media is theater. It's all an act.
