yes, PLENTY of hicks in the shouth, I doubt it will ever change, unless they get displaced somehow. I can look out my window and find better proof then that though.

I like computer music alot, I am a computar fanboy. I get really excited when some unreal strange new sound comes out of a computer. I dunno, it just seems so limitless, so much more that one has the power to do with a computer, why not use it? I don't really pay much attention to the level of skill that is required to make a sound, as long as the sound is good I would enjoy it, even if it was like, a fart kazoo sympony.

Just give the computer guys a chance, there is so much great software music out there, and it does take long hours of proctice and work to make it all possible. They definetaly have skill, but it isnt the same set of skills, which isnt really that important.

I just dont understand what maked vinyl the required meduim for a respectable dj, other then tradition

You're totally missing what this thread is about. Of course computers are great for making music, every single person on this board would agree with that! The discussion here is not about the way people make music, it's about the medium they use to play music. You don't create sounds with a piece of vinyl, you simply play it.

Anyway, to give my 2 cents, I think that vinyl is really what makes the dj. Not only because you know how to use a turntable but it's also about getting your hands on certain records. The actual search for good tracks. Some of the records that djs play are worth over $100! What is a cd or an mp3 worth? How hard are they to obtain? Think about that.

that and MY FUCKING BEER.

When people on this forum talk about a "party", they're referring to a rave, not the typical frat party that you're probably used to.

Smiley DJ Re: Re: Ohhh No No No, I Don't Respect That

Vinyl may no longer be as common in live shows as it used to be, but it's not 'dying'. And even though I'm all for technology and for the music, there's nothing quite like seeing a DJ (who actually knows what he's doing) spinnin' records. Ya'll can swear by Ableton/Final Scratch/whatever all you want, but I'm with the thread starter on this one. If you're a DJ - and I'm PAYING to see you do your stuff - use vinlys! Use a comp as well, just don't get rid of the medium that got you there in the first place. My two cents.

Turntables made the DJs? Damn, and here I was thinking it had something to do with music. And when did I bash turntables? I said I don't give a crap what the DJ uses.

Posted by Psy-T on Jul-07-2005 16:36:

i have no respect for people who use turntables!! bring back the 8 track djs!!!!1111

on second thought,,, make it reel to reel!!

you know what? actually, gimme two tribes with percussions and i'll tell each of them what to play at every point, yeah, that's the ultimate djing!
