The solution is easy:
Yes I am an insensitive clod!

If I lived on that island for 20 years, and then all of a sudden I can't sleep due to loud music during pretty much every friday/saturday night - I'd be complaining ! Before you dismiss their complaints, why don't you put yourself in their shoes for a minute. Have you considered that it might actually be loud over there ? |

...its like that old couple who has a house next to a golf course...the course was there since the 1920s & they moved in there big ass mansion in 1999...what the FUCK....HELLO????

Originally posted by magikb I haven't dismissed any complaints.. but they do afterall live in a city.. and a city that has millions of people and millions of different noises each and every single night... if i hear a noise that is keeping me up all night long.. do i call to bitch to anyone.. no, it is part of living in a city and you get used to it.. move to the country if you want silence..

Originally posted by Durafei They are not complaining about noises from the city. They are complaining about a particular nightclub called "The Docks", which according to them has been in violation of noise regulations for years.

Originally posted by amb_ They aren't? Isn't the Docks a part of the city, making a positive contribution to the welfare of Toronto (contrary to the islanders in their own right)? Obviously they can't complain about city noise, but this nightclub is an easy target to villify.
OK. Let me elaborate my point of view on this situation.
If the Docks is indeed violating noise regulations specified by the city of Toronto - the Docks should go, not the islanders.
If, on the other hand, Docks is not violating any regulations - the islanders can fuck off, even if they can't sleep at night.
There !

Originally posted by Durafei So basically you are saying that if it wasn't for the Docks, these islanders would find something else to complain about ?

Originally posted by amb_ Or they should comply with the applicable regulations, yes.

Originally posted by Durafei Do you know what happened ? You couldn't hear shit ! Everybody was complaining that the volume was way too low.
There should be a website where the Docks can communicate with those residing on the island - perhaps in an effort to warn them of up-coming events (such as ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Tiesto??) and in some way that may give them the option of leaving for the night or at the very least recognizing the *posibility* of increased volume coming from the establishment.
Call me naive - but it sure would be nice if people could reach amicable solutions via compromising for once. I realize that laws are in place for such disagreements - but maybe the Docks would be more willing to accept any potential validity of the islanders' complaints if they weren't always running to City Hall and vice versa. It becomes tiresome, annoying and irritating to say the least when you have to travel the tiers of a beauracracy for a solution that may just as easily be reached with an hour discussion that voices the concerns of both sides involved and a resolute effort to reach a satisfying compromise.
I'd bet that the islanders wouldn't have half as bad a reputation if they weren't always beaking off to municipal government and that establishments along the waterfront would be MUCH more open to compromise if they felt the island residents were working WITH them as opposed to constantly AGAINST them.

Originally posted by rabbitjoker No need. Word on the street is that the by-law folks are camping out on the island fairly ofent to try and "catch The Docks in the act". The city, counselors and by-law enforcement are harassing the nightclub industry on all fronts.

Originally posted by rabbitjoker This is a serious problem. If this happens to The Docks - it will not stop there. Next will be the entertainment disctrict, then The Guvernment. This is a serious and calculated attack on the nightclub industry. What ever happened to that petition or plan for action?
