well....WOOOHOOO

what a flippin sweet night.

first off - got to talk to some of the people in charge of the club which was quite cool - then got to see seth's friend adam and got to hang out with him. seth and mack tore it up. great guys playing some of the coolest sounding stuff that's just great to dance to. liquid todd was quite the comic relief. i was really excited when he dropped the WOW Dustbiter's Mix of Don't Forget me - then i just stood in awe when he dropped "It Just Won't Do." A song i typical laugh when singing along to...

hernan was excellent. quality mixing with quality tunes - usually not a style i tend to listen to that much - but i was surely dancing. oakenfold did exactly what i expected - great tracks with piss poor mixing. highlight was by far hearing the greece 2000 mix.

overall i was just shocked to see the turnout - especially for a monday night. minus the fact of some outlandish behavior of some individuals, the venue was great for this sort of event. events like last night make me hopeful for the days to come.

Great Night in Indy!! I really was amazed to see how many people here in Indy are in EDM besides me and JenniferRene & Jordan. We need to have more events like this one to keep the beat alive!

Special thanks to my fellow trancehead Trey for venturing out into the rain with me that night to find me a hair tie in my car. We looked like we had just got done taking a shower in our clothes when we got back inside!!! But hey I told ya wed dry off!!!

Yeah I agree. It did create a pretty neat atmosphere though. But we will definatley make the DJ more visible this time around and in the future events @ Talbott

I don't suppose your promotional company would feel like being nice and giving me a refund. I'm already bummed enough that I didn't get to see some great DJs.

I'll see what we can do. We aren't the investors of the event, but the on-site promoters. We got a small cut of the small profit (considering the time and effort involved) on the event overall. I will try to get something worked out for you though...sorry about the misprint :/ It did say 21+ on groovetickets.com the whole time though. But still a misprint on the promoters part (which is partially my fault). Since you will be 21 soon I could comp you into the next 1 or 2 of our events that you can get into. when do you turn?

Overall all, it was a pretty good night. The place was packed which was great to see. I did have about 5000 sweaty topless guys rub against me as they shoved their way through the crowd, but what ya gonna do. This was the first time I had been to Talbot St. and I guess I was a little dissappointed. The way it is set up you can't stand anywhere on the dance floor for more than 2 minutes without some one trying to push through you to get to the front or back. As far as the music goes, I really didn't like Liquid Todd all that much, so we went into the second room for most of his set. It was much cooler and less packed in there, and I enjoyed some of the local talent until they started to play DnB, which is not my cup of tea. When we went back into the main room Hernan was just coming on and he tore the room off. He alone was worth the price of admission. His transitions were so good that I could barely tell when he moved from one song to the next (I was a tad drunk as well). I definelty agree with everyone about the lighting on the DJ. I couldn't tell when Hernan left the stage and Oakey came on until Reign played because I figured Hernan wouldn't play that. Then once I heard the transition into the next song I knew there was no way Hernan was playing anymore. All I ever saw of Hernan was his curly hair, and I never saw Oakenfold. As far as Oakey's set goes, I was pretty dissappointed. I saw him several years ago and he just seems to get worse as time goes by. I didn't expect flawless mixing or anything, but I really didn't enjoy the track selection either. It was nice to hear Trafic on a large system and the remix of Greece 2000 was nice, but other than that Oakenfold was not very memorable. We spent most of Oakey's set chilling in the VIP, which was worth the money just to have a place to sit and restrooms without a line a mile long.

Seth, what happened to the DJs being in the VIP and the special guest with the initials DG????

Posted by djSethNichols on Jul-13-2005 20:04:

well Donald Glaude got caught up and couldn't make it.

I thought some of the talent would hang out up there but they ended up staying in the dressing room most of the time between sets. sorry.

the VIP was worth it though just being able to escape the cramped main floor.

You're welcome!
My wet shirt was dry again in about 10 minutes of walking in!!

The only dj I really wanted to talk to was Hernan, and I got to do that when I got his autograph so I was happy. It would have been cool to meet Donald, but just having a place to escape was worth the extra money.

Only thing they should change is giving the VIP's one or two drink tickets for the extra price since you're paying a whole lot just to be able to sit down at this point.

Posted by djSethNichols on Jul-14-2005 01:54:

Yeah we'll try and work out a deal like that with the club on the drink tix for VIP. I'll keep you posted.

I don't turn 21 until next May... looks like I won't be going to one of the upcoming Indy events anytime soon. I thought other people under 21 would've not got in either, but it looks like I'm the only one. Any luck on that refund? After throwing the Addiction party I realize the money's tight, but being a college kid I'd really appreciate it.

Seth & Mack, great set. I agree with mostly everyone in that Liquid Todd sucked ass. Hernan was amazing. Oakie's mixing wasn't great but that was to be expected. He still plays good music at least.

I really liked the venue. My only problem was how people were on the dance floor. It was difficult to dance for 2 minutes without someone unapologetically bumping into me to make it towards the front, slamming into me while dancing, or smashing me against a platform to make more room for themselves. It could have been just me but it kept happening to me all throughout the night. This is the only place I've been where I felt frustrated on the dance floor.

Posted by djSethNichols on Jul-15-2005 22:00:

? I don't get the number thing.

Anyways, yeah I hear ya, it was pretty crowded in there and there were some rude people in the bunch, but overall I thought it was a good crowd. I think there was a good chunk of 'messed up' people carelessly flying around the place.
take the good with the bad. I think the Fortier crowd next week will be a much more professional and courteous about that kind of stuff.

Posted by TranceSafari on Jul-16-2005 15:42:

Seth, the numbers thing (+1 or +1,000,000) is something here on tranceaddict that means you agree with what everyone else is saying. Don't worry, I don't get it either.

I felt like there should have been some sort of aisle way(s) for people to move to and fro instead of just plowing your way through the crowd. I really have no problem with 2 guys grinding or kissing , but I could have done with out them pushing and rubbing against me with no shirts on.

Here is something funny. I saw one of my friends who went to the show yesterday and he didn't think Oakenfold ever came on. He said he never saw them switch and he never saw Oakenfold's name on the screens so he didn't think he ever played. Just more evidence that there needs to be a light on the DJ booth.

Seth, any chance you have a tracklist for your Mack's set. I heard a couple tunes I really liked but didn't know.

Exactly.

Yeah it took me a second to realize that Oakie had come on. All I could see was fog and a silhouette.

Posted by djSethNichols on Jul-18-2005 06:00:

Well I know the booth was better lit during Hernan's set vs Oakie's set. I think Oakie requested it be darker, but I'm not positive. I do know it was a little better illuminated for Hernan's set.

But I think I've already said 2 TIMES NOW (in this thread) that there WILL BE a LIGHT on the DJ for the next show

Yeah we can toss out some track titles of what we played...do you know what time generally the tracks were played?

We don't have a TL in order but we might be able to figure it out

Posted by JenniferRene on Jul-18-2005 14:48:

Hey Ben I guess we're just stupid for posting the # thing??? hehe j/m with all ya...

anyways, seriously, it was a great show. let's give Seth a break. come on oakenfold and hernan in indy?? i know i made a few suggestions as well but enough complaining already. (and i hope you all know i mean that in the not-trying-to-be-mean, friendliest way possible)

Anybody listened to Coldplay-White Shadows (Gabriel & Dresden Bootleg) yet??? OMG...

Posted by TranceSafari on Jul-18-2005 16:02:

Seth man, I'm not bashing the show or the lighting or anything, I'm just talking. I have much respect for you and your promotion company for bringing the big boys to Indy. This is a forum just to talk and converse with people who share the same interest in the music. I'm just happy we have such a great show to talk about with out having to drive hours to get there.

You keep the shows coming to Indy, and we'll keep attending them and talking about them.

Posted by djSethNichols on Jul-18-2005 18:02:

I wasn't taking it as a bashing...I just felt like saying that since it was the 3rd or 4th time someone said something about the lighting. All good. The support is very much appreciated, and rest assured everything this scene puts into our events goes back into more events for the future. Trying to build it up....again.
