if yesterdays performance is anything to go by they'll be lucky to win anything this year.

True that. i'm glad it was crespo who scored as I think he went in for a lot of undeserving stick during his last stint with chelsea, he's an excellent player imo, would much preffered him to stay at milan instead of vieiri.

he definatly is one of those born with the magical goal scoring touch.; as long as the effort comes from chelsea to make him feel happy, and he puts in the effort on the field week in week out to contribute to the team.

i was getting so much stick in the pub from the arsenal fans from the previous game, i was glad he scored a wonder goal.

Silly me, i thought it was
having alot of ball posession
always (=having a history of it, and not 2 year since some rich Russian prick bought your club) bring nice, attractive and offensive play to win in style

ah, thats just me i guess

Sorry, i didn't understand well what you mean, what's your point?

I may as well add Bayern to the list, i've seen the highlights from the last Bundesliga matches, they seem solid. Of course this is all safe bets, but am I supposed to say I think some random underdog will win it?

ARTMEDIA OR FC THUN TO WIN CL 2006!

no offence intended

listing a bunch of team is like "sitting on the fence" in a debate, your not really picking 1 team to win just listing a bunch of the top teams in the world(which anyone who follows football would be aware off)

Posted by zoric on Aug-19-2005 22:46:

Roy Makaay and Bayern Mnich looks very strong atm, I think that they will be one of the best teams in this years Champions League and I hope that they will go long in the tournament.

If i picked one and say: they will be the winners, that would mean nothing at all since the knockout rounds always provide some surprises. A certain team may be clearly the strongest but with only a bad draw, an injury crisis and 2 below average games and they're out. That's why Porto and Liverpool won the last 2 seasons, a double group stage really gave an advantage to the favourites, now the underdogs have more of a chance.

I know I'm getting way out of the argument we were having, but I'd just like to say I fully agree with the current format of the tournament. You get a good bunch of the top teams in Europe by letting 3 or 4 teams from certain countries, the level of competition is really high. Teams need to prove they're mildly regular by qualifying in the group stage. Then we get the chaos of the knockout. The only thing that is lacking is the old concept of needing to be the champions to qualify, this isn't truly the "champions" league. But this way the competition is better for the spectators, more great games.
