-- why Dj Tiesto seems to be less famous now?

I dont think hes less popular in general, only that his big hype is finally dying down. As for this website, the reason hes not as popular anymore is because people that actually do like him are afraid to admit it due to all the bashers.

i like him, i respect him what he has done for the trance scene. Is he my favorite dj/producer? No. i think his time has passed but that doesnt mean im gonna bash the guy (just like alot of people are doing these days). Now its time for other DJs/Producers to step up and make us appriciate trance and love it as we have always have.

Like Floorfiller mentioned, it doesn't really have to do with popularity itself; it has to do with the quality of an artist's work compared to that popularity. If an artist consistently produces quality work, then by all means they deserve the credit.

Tiesto changed his focus from quality work to market exposure after 2002. It might have worked for a short while, but lasting artists are built on lasting work, not marketing. Just Be was pathetic compared to In My Memory, loaded with would-be hits like Paul's Reflections. His remixes of Skin and Kane pale compared to Flesh and Sunrise. His DJing slipped to boot.

Not to be too elitist or anything, but most people who really respected Tiesto for what got him where he is have been waiting for the Oakie-styled fall since 2003.

Tiesto is a fine dj, and one of the greatest producers.....its just the jealus/insecure people that call him down, of course if ur number one people will talk shit about you. I have liked his dj'n since before 2000, and i still think he is a dandy dj.

Yeah just imagine where trance would be without superstar DJ's dragging it kicking and screaming into the land of commercialism...

Ummm, Tiesto is definitely seen as a god in LA....not by those who are really into trance or in the know, but just the general cubbing scene....his status does remind me of Oakey a couple years ago....go to his events there and the age range of the crowd is scary...from the youngins (21) to people in there 50s....it's reallly scary.

I think once you start pulling crowds like that, you could play any old shit and people would think that your still a god.

I've ony seen him once and while I wasnt particularly impressed, I wasnt horribly offended either. His set was about 1/3 trance, 1/3 boring as shite prog and 1/3 gay house remixes of rock and or 80s tunes. From what I hear, this is pretty standard for for the guy.

What can I say? The kiddies loved it and so did the bouncers...

oh come on... so much pressure. beatmixing (badly) and waving your hand for 2 hours, chargin 40'000 dollars for it. ditching your Top 100 DJ party because you're going to practice your magic tricks, and humming to a sound engineer so he can make your new track.

OMG... it's so tiresome!

Even though Oakey helped launch trance into the mainsteam, I think he did it the right way. The reason for me saying this being, that he didn't really spin cheesy mainstream music at all. He actually pulled off making GOOD music popular and for that I seriously respect Paul Oakenfold.

Me as well. If it weren't for him I would never have heard of trance, I'd have still been listening to nu metal crap.

He's fallen, but so have pink floyd, metallica and a lot of great musicians. You don't see people saying "man, pink floyd suck, they're last album was crap" They say holy shit darkside is a trip. Quite a few people dislike metallica's last albums, but they still haven't lost respect for the guys who made One and Enter sandman.

That's what I'll figure for Tiesto and Oakie and such. I used be one who hated Tiesto, but not any more, Cuz I go back, listen to all those pre 2000 Gatecrasher sets and fall in love with him and Oakie again.

A shitty performance gets lost in history, but a great performance is legendary.

I mean a lot of people hate stuff when it gets popular. Which is pretty lame. I guess those people want to feel special, like they're the only ones listening to good music. So they hate popular stuff, cuz everyone listens, and listen to stuff very few people listen to, just cuz its unpopular.

Exactly. Get extremely famous and no matter how bad you are, kiddies will love you. I saw Oakey and he was absolutely horrid. I stood there most of the time in shock at how so many people were dancing like it was the greatest thing they've ever heard while chanting, "Oakey! Oakey!" It's not going to end with Tijs. The next person to hit number one will act the same (it's already starting with Armin, but that's another rant), and the person after will be the same, as well.

It's sad what fame and money will do to people who have the ability to be innovative, yet decide to cash-in and not risk losing their place.

Yeah good reply, I must be...

Why is it any time someone slams Oakenfold, they are an affront to trance or a n00b or otherwise ungrateful for the pioneers of trance? Is it like being an American and not celebrating thanksgiving?

Did I say he doesnt deserve credit? no.

Did I say Kraftwerk doesnt deserve credit? no.

Do I like either of them? no.

The only thing that Oakey even did that surprised me was play the odd Hallucinogen track here and there. Thats was about as interesting as he ever got for moi. Sure... play some goa for the kiddies. Nice one bro, your a fucking legend.

DJ's are over rated anyway.
