The topic at hand is stereotyping EDM and the people who listen to it, and I brought up the fact that over the past few days we've discussed rap/r&b in similar threads and its suddenly ok to stereotype people who listen to rap and make rap as gang members and bad people. |
I think threads like this are funny.
Im sorry. My mom loves what I listen to and asks me to send her sets all the time.
Lucky I spose? ![]()

So yes that music is related to gansters, money, bitches, killing, 40's, old english, 22" spinnnaz, gold chains, pop that pussy, etc. As for EDM, I think that EDM is much more civilized and intelligent music. The reason why I think that EDM has this opportunity is because unlike rap or hip-hop, it doesnt always have lyrics to hold it in its usual sterotypical stigma. |
. I think the same way man.

Yea but Wu Tang were QUALITY RAP productions. Difference.
i simply cannot respect my sister's taste in music. she hates edm, but enjoys what she calls hiphop. i have nothing against the real stuff from that genre, but when all she listens to is the 2003+ stuff made by 50 cent and other pop idols, it's really laughable. i don't think she would even know who mobb depp or gangstarr are.
so, the ignorance flows in sweden too, i can assure you
You could probably form a reasonable stereotype of trance and people who listen to trance. Thing is, it has nothing to do with the popular stereotype people have of these things.

| Originally posted by flavdave By saying EDM is more civilized and intelligent because most of the time it doesn't have lyrics is a stupid reason. It really is. Trance tracks that have lyrics that have thought provoking social and political content are very few and far between, unlike in hip hop. The "ooh baby I love you so much" trance lyrics and "I'mmma kill this bitch" gangsta rap lyrics cancel each other out as it were, remove the crap. |

Yeah, there are some decent people in the rap industry but those decent people are just a very small percatage. You might say that well EDM people like X, hmmm yeah some might, but the people that really appriciate EDM is for the music, its not because they love to do X on it, its because they love the music. Most of the time, the only people that do X are clubbers that are just there for the fun, not music. But you seem to have a bigger view on other genres of music such as rap, i dont, i dont really care about it like i told you because rap is shit to me, nothing but crimes and a f***** up way of life and culture. |
yeah, my brother always asks me if I trip on E when i listen to the music just joking around. My mom likes some of the songs and my dad will listen to it if I leave some CD in the car or something. But yeah, the whole big booty and bling bling thing is the whole reason I listen to HIP-HOP and not rap.

| Originally posted by Tranc3 Holy shit, do you even know how to read? Dave hasn't said rap music doesn't have crimes or deal with prostitutes "and all that kind of crap" - he's merely trying to show you that there's more to it than the narrow scope of music you've listened to and classified as rap/hiphop. He's made the following argument before, so I might be crazy to think that making it again would somehow penetrate your lead-coated skull, but here it is. Just as not all of trance is Lasgo, Milk Inc, DJ Sammy, etc... not all of hiphop deals with gangs, murdering, prostitutes, money, etc... Just as elitists within the trance genre like to overclassify (in order to place some distance between themselves and music they don't like) by saying acts like DJ Sammy aren't trance at all but Eurodance, Hiphop elitists like to overclassify as well and say that acts such as the ones you most likely have in mind aren't hiphop at all, but rather mainstream crap. However, this doesn't change the fact that someone new, inexperience, or otherwise too lazy to really look into the genre will simply listen to the more readily available music and either enjoy or write off the entire genre and all related genres based on their limited exposure. In everything, there is an underground. And everywhere, there are stupid people. Make an effort to educate yourself and stop being one of the stupid people. |

I cant stand it why people bring up hip hop in a Trance forum anyways. I dont think if you would go in a hip hop forum, you have people talking about trance, they dont even know what it is anyways.
he brought it up because everyone is saying "OMG th0s3 p30ple are hating on trance and they dont even know!" and he brought up hip hop because afew people in here have been like "OMG hiphop/rap sux0rs mad c0x" when usually they are making the same kind of statement as the "trance haters", an uneducated one. but yeah, when people ask me why I like dance music, I say "Because I like it and that is all that should matter" and then they are cool with it.
BTW, you can quote more than once in a post, and you dont need to put 3 different paragraphs in 3 different posts.
