its a joke. its from a book. the book is called 'how to DJ properly'. it lists a number of euphemistic terms to describe different genres. its funny to the reasonable number of people on here who are familiar with said book.

Who'da thought electronically synthesized elements would be put into electronic dance music?

This is the picture from said book that made tachyon & I laugh..

well, theyre obviously related species, coz neither of them have eyes

that book is full of funny shit. if i had a memory i could mention a few. alas...

all minimal, most breaks, all house, all techno, most tek-trance, (not sure what electro sounds like but ill lump it in here as well), all DnB: suck the big one.
but its great to over genre-ise. makes me laugh

That kind of arguement might have been valid, say about 1995? Electronic music has been around almost 2 decades now dude, So if 'electro' is the best thing since sliced bread, today, that just proves to me there's been no progression or innovation in this music over the last 20 years, which you & I know has to be completely untrue.

This whole electro sound is a complete waste of energy & time. I realise its primarily a fashion thing, but we've heard it all before? And it was crap back in the 80's & 90's, at least back then they had technical issues to blame it on, but now..?

People will look back on this period and realise we didn't actually go anywhere.

I blame Berlin. Fucking Germans.

No one has to lecture me on the origins of dance music. But seriously, if you're looking for innovation in the music that's coming out I couldn't disagree more. There are old 'acid' influences in electro, heavy influences, but by far right now it's the most innovative sounding music out there. One listen to this week's 5 hour essential mix covering a broad range of genres should provide adequite example. Hell even van dyk was jumping on the electro bandwagon this week.

I'm not claiming it's the 'best' thing ever to happen to dance music, but it is the best new stuff out there hands down. Whether it be the dirty progressive heavy basslines combined with ripping electro sounds, or innovative pitch sliding on samples never used before, vocals cut to shit, or off-time, off-beat glitchy electro synths, this modern version of electro is offering much more than the 'knob-twisting phasor' sounds of the old acid. You say it's stagnant, I say you aren't giving it nearly enough credit nor the ear it deserves.

Oh and by the way, the people pushing this new electro in the beginning were not the Germans, it was actually DJs such as Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair and Nic Fanciulli you have to blame for this.

Oh and just so you don't confuse old acid with electro again, I'd recommend downloading a couple tracks that have very little acid in them...
Buick Project - At the Rave
Yoshimoto - Do What U Do - (Andy Caldwell & Mel Lwun / Trentemoller)
Trentemoller - Polar Shift

hell, almost anything by trentemoller.

But there's a reason why virtually every big name DJ is jumping on the electro bandwagon, maybe you should check it out, it might be around for a lot longer than you think.

Dave download the tracks I listed, you might be able to understand.

And minimal isn't a genre on it's own. It's just the use of less samples within the track. I personally have a lot of minimal tribal in my vinyl collection, but I would not at all put it in the same category of trentemoller.

Posted by Aesthetic on Aug-03-2005 05:05:

i'll listen to them and get back to you

Posted by tachyon on Aug-03-2005 05:47:

theres a difference between ghey electro and good electro, poker flat records apparently has the good ones. thanks to steve bug.

personally i'd like to keep my prog deep dark and driving (see chris meehan), and my minimal glitchy and quirky. (see dominik eulberg).

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Aug-03-2005 05:50:

im curious tachyon, is there any (sub)genre you despise? whilst id love to have you genre-whoreness, i feel you might be missing out on just how wonderfully powerful hate can be (just ask anakin )

Posted by Aesthetic on Aug-03-2005 05:53:

Lmao "Gery"

Some of grayarea's livesets are still the most creative things I've heard for ages.

Still listening to the global and kiss ones maybe once every 2 weeks or so, never ever get sick of them.

Heh, digital witchcraft even played the trentemoller mix of du what u du a little while back. Don't think I could handle a flood of electro, but definitely nice to spice things up a bit from time to time.
