Last Year , Boyd Westerman spun prog house at Plasma (lounge directly behind simons with no sign on the door) on most fridays. I had blast everytime I went. Also at Speakeasy, some chick played house music on Saturday.
Have fun in G'ville

*Off topic*
Thomas, one of FLTA's DJs played one of your tracks today! I believe it was Close Horizon, I didn't get an ID, but it had female vocals and it was AMAZING! Hope to hear more of your stuff soon!
Just found out about this:
Speakeasy has edm every friday night. (classic soul & funk 7" grooves spiced up with modern twists)
Platinum also has downtempo and prog. breaks every friday. <-
I'll be playing dance party music along with D-Freshh this Saturday at Rue Bar. I can put people on the list, just let me know by noon tommoro. Don't bother showing up after midnight, we will definitely be at capacity. Hopefully i can get D-Freshh to put the Ultra video on the projector screen.

Goede morgen and welcome to G`ville- this place sucks......
The beans suck, the weed isn`t too good- (compared to NL)and is way over priced and the Fla heat is F`ing hot&sticky.
Utrecht, haven`t been there since 97, great country where
you have far more rights/freedoms than here so becareful of the local cops!
Ybor city isn`t too far to drive to catch a good DJ.
Heb een mooie dag
welcome to gainesville bro. not much of a scene at all up here, but thats what road trips are for.
and why is weed so goddamn hard to find in this city???????????

thats truly pathetic because this town goes through droughts like no other.
i think we just got #3 cuz of norml.
day #2 of my quest begins....
I hear DUBTRIBE will be playing in G-ville during homecoming weekend. That should be a good treat for the losers still in that town. And yea, I hear Leon Morely is back putting some crackhead guy named Josh Wickham to shame as far as throwing the EDM parties. Also, does anyone know if Jorge Rodriguez is still running VIBE or if Ian Thompson actually got 238West up and running? I hear Ian loves throwing the "ghetto night"
Gotcha beeeotch! Hahaha.
On a serious note....
First time I saw PVD in the U.S. was in 96, could have been 98 during the freshman year but I drove there several times when I was 16 for shows and it was @ SIMONS. PVD, Frankie Bones, Digweed/Sasha, Taylor were all in my first year going there. That place was sick. People could walk around with whip cream canisters in their hands giving people whippets. The place would smell like a pharmacy blew up from all the vicks being passed around and people blowing each other up. I remember sitting on the floor with a couple of DGs smoking a cig, rollin our asses off and then finding 5 rolls on the floor next to us. I lost a $325 pair of Diors when I let some raver chick named Star hold them while I lit a cig. Only in SIMONS.
Anyone remember when that place was all black with that creepy gothic throne looking like chair at the entrance? And that purple curtain in the front window that kept all sunlight out come 10:00am? I also remember on the rooftop when it was just a ROOFTOP with greek gods and godesses playing in clouds on the walls? And do any of you remember those ghetto ass ripped up couches on stage that chicks used to give head on? I was really sad when those left.
And lets not forget the loft when they had chains coming down from the cieling and a sheet of metal laying horizontal for the decks to sit on. I remember LTJ Bukem and Christopher Lawrence fucking everyone up on the decks there in the Loft, I still have my black and my yellow "Loft Staff" shirts from working there. They have rips and holes in them but I still can't throw them away just yet.
I wonder if anyone here was at the Keoki show in 97 when they blew a fuse or tripped the break and everything went dead and was pitch black...WHOA! That was a night. And who could forget the ZTA bartender, Margaret, with the fake double D tits that ALWAYS popped out of her shirt while mixing drinks.
I think one of my favorite shows there was when Crystal Method came and was on tour promoting their "Vegas" CD and did a live PA. That was a tiiiiight night.
Ahhh memories....
FYI the 2am law didnt go into effect till 2000. The 4am law started at the end of 99 after the Digweed show of Halloween and by 2000 it was 2am.
Some flyers of great Gainesville parties from before these guys were famous.....incredible nights.
Notice how Keoki was the headliner back then....

Chronic is easy to come by there. In fact I don't know anyone who smokes ghetto weed, just straight chronic. One thing about Gainseville is that there are plenty of drugs for everyone.
You just have to find a crew to hang with and somebody will know somebody....the town is so small its really not a problem. In fact, you should go to the pool party at lexington crossing during UF/UT weekend in a couple of weeks. Its like Hempfest but with Miami chicks taking clothes off during the bikkini contest....that and it has FREE ALCOHOL.

I was at the walmart on Archer and 34th, and next door at the publix some dude had atleast 50 cases in his trailer. It was fucking nuts. And then the next day I went to a football game that had 91 thousand people... 91 thousand, which is the biggest football game EVER in florida. To put that in perspective, Gainesville's official population is 108,856. Crazy little town. |
