I think uniformly most of you got it all wrong. There's not a significant decrease in oil supplies, it's the refineries in the hurricane zone which got knocked off line in the 20% range which refine the crude into gasoline and, BTW propane and fuel oil which will be outrageous this winter. The President is ready to release some strategic reserves of oil, but its just a gesture without the refinery capacity...

haha, yep, jsut spent $47 filling up my tank - $4.20 a gallon 
it was wicked funny, the gas station wasnt taking credit cards, cash only...
and their atm inside was broken..
so i told this to the chick filling up behind me just to let her know, she starts FREAKING out - she's like "omg, i dont have ANY cash, ive been to 4 gas stations already, everyone's out of gas!... and my fone doesnt have any reception, what's going on?! was there a terrorist attack?!!"
haha, total chaos 
Most of the countries around the world especially the third world countries have been paying these prices since past decade. Ironic aint it??

he paid 4.20 and i paid 4 lol i guess im lucky i have no turbos! 
Damn i feel sorry for you people, i actually thought we had it expensive in Australia but i seem to be very wrong. Yesterday the price hit the highest it's ever been at $1.30 which im guessing is around $US 1.00 a litre of unleaded petrol.
Damn those prices are very bad, i remember when it used to be 70 cents in Australia and that was only a year ago.

Here in the UK we're paying the equivalent of $6 a gallon here all year round.

i don't know about the rest of you but we love high oil prices
I don't believe the US is ready for the tiny autos like Europe has, although I've seen a few Mini Coopers and some of the new model Volkswagen bugs around. Problem is they're death traps against the hulking SUVs and big pickup trucks prevalent on the highways here. You need to be driving a tank if you're going to smash into or get smashed by another one with some hope of survival.
Have also seen some lame at best attempts at energy efficiency with new Hybrid cars here by the auto industry which use battery/gas engine combos. Only problem beyond the $10,000+ price tag over the ordinary is that such cars tend to use six cylinders with the hybrid when four cylinder versions of the same vehicles get better mileage than the hybrids. So the hybrids are still only being driven by the ecologically chic high middle class as conversation pieces.
