If gas prices rise higher, I'll be forced to start taking the train to college.

The way FEMA and the government is responding, it really has to be one of the worst relief efforts i've ever seen

+1

CNN reported (as of this morning) that roving gangs of gunmen were running rampant in Baton Rouge, driving around in pickup trucks w/ several men in the back wielding AK-47 rifles... As the reporter put it, it looks like a scene out of Somalia, not the United States. WTF are these people doing? I don't care if you're poor - that is, nor will it ever be, an excuse to act like an uncivilized animal. This is an absolute embarassment to our country.

And, on another note... That FX movie didn't need to be made. There was a 1 hour Discovery show that I watched years ago that proposed this exact situation w/ computer graphics of what the city would look like under 10 feet of water - they were eerily correct. I have some lack of sympathy for the situation (not the people invovled - I truly feel sorry for them). But it was known that the entire city was 13 feet below sea level, with nothing but a dirt mound between it and the sea - this was inevitable....
tragic, but inevitable..

They exaggerate a little, of course. But I wateched an entire hour long shit on it on the Discovery Channel. They showed where one part of the island actually broke off and started to slide down.

My city's gone. Ruined. Dunno when, or if I'll ever be able to get back. I may have been lucky enough to avoid flooding, but if I am lucky enough, my house is looted for sure. No excuse to be looting TV's and computers. Steal yourself some fucking food, maybe some meds, but that's it. No need for dumb ass whodis walking around with guns shooting helicopters and shooting rescue workers. I hope every single tape is kept on record and all these people either get shot or go to jail.

My parents live in Holmdel, NJ. So I'm going to have to stay here until I can move back down. I'm probably going to go back as soon as we're allowed. I'd love to help rebuild the city.

Glad to hear you and your parents are doing well.....my sister's girlfriends Dad and Step-mom live in the NO area, they are okay as well as there house but her Mom passed away about 7 years ago (when my sister's friend was about 24 yrs old) and the girl had all of her Mom's antiques and memorabilia in a storage unit in NO and from what she has heard it is one of the worst hit areas down there and there is a good chance that she wont be able to recover anything. I know its only "things" but it was also the memory of her mom in that storage unit that has slowly been lost because of this disaster.

The NYTA's have open arms for you. If you need to get your mind off of everything, PM use, whatever, we'll chill, go to the club, whatever.
