here I go again ... lol

We were all pretty experienced partiers so we all kind of went off on our own alot of the night, you guys understand. So the running joke was to gather together every so often and make fun of things we saw ... at one point, we all got together and said at the same time ... "ok, now they are all getting drunk". So there was alot of bumping into people and stuff, this made it easier to get from room to room.
The thing about Toronto is that they have no speed. They dont know what it is, so befor like 3 or 4, everyone is SO worried about looking like they are on something thats why no one really dances at those times. Meanwhile I am DANCING MY ASS OFF because B&J are killing me with the hardest beats I have ever heard and they are looking at me "that guy must be on drugs". I was a ltitle insulted when my love for the set became 'me being on drugs'.

After 4, everyone in the room became e-tarded. But still not smiling, I didn't get it.

Moment #1: I was walking through one of the rooms with a stereo t-shirt on and these 2 girls run up to me screaming "OMG WE KNOW THE PLACE STEREO, YOU KNOW IT???!?!" I walked right through them saying "never heard of the place..." it was a funny moment.

Thank god we didnt pay to get in (THANK YOU DEMI)
Even demi after his set came up to me and my friends with a "this is a very motivating crowd" in total sarcasme.

PS: Boa closed. Does that mean the scene is dead!?

THANK GOD FOR STEREO TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL FINALLY FEEL BACK HOME....!

Boa is moving...Will re-open in probably 2 weeks. And the thing you have to understand about the toronto scene is it's history:

mid-late 90's, was a thriving scene, industry was one of the best clubs in the world, a house haven, Toronto had 10,000 people massives virtually every month, and the second best drum and bass scene in the world [next to london].

Government banned raves. Killed the massives. Industry was bought out by Scotiabank, and lost it's space, and shut down. [Danny Tenaglia threw the closing party, and still claims it as one of the best nights he's ever had, and I agree with him]. The only major club that kept it's doors open and played dance music during this period was the guvernment. It became overcrowded, the talent coming in the door was less than what was expected [the owner was trying to squeeze as much out of the fan base as possible], and a lot of the old skoolers quit the scene. Charles [the guv owner] used this time to gain a stranglehold on all of the Dance music events running in toronto.

Boa opened. Modelled after Stereo and Aria, it's a place where you can see up and coming DJs as well as great house DJs in a purely afterhours environment. Drawing in the older crowd who's gotten sick of putting up with the guvernment's bullshit, it's quickly become 'the place' for a good vibe, good house music, and room to dance. Now that Boa opened, it's lead to an increased popularity in dance music in Toronto, and with the guvernment's reputation of being 'the premier club', all the noobs go there to hear their ferry's, their oakenfolds, their digweeds, and their sashas, leading to the worst crowding of that venue yet.

So all in all :
if you want quality partying in toronto, avoid the guv.

guv parties are crowded due to a) greedy ownership and b) the inability to throw massives in toronto due to stupid by-laws

Ok, so I I may get grilled for this but this is my take on things. I was at Labor of Love and me and my fellow Montrealers ran out of there screaming NEVER AGAIN TORONTO. I can almost garentee it being the worst event I have ever attended. It was beyond packed, there was a point in the night when me and my friend were sitting in a stall, she was crying because there was no escape from the people, the heat. THe venue was huge, but WAKKKK! I did not understand the concept of putting 5 clubs together but to get from one to another, it was left, right, up , right, down the stairs, around the corner and there you go you are in the house room. And all the hallways and stairways were ONE WAY so to get back where you previously just were, you had to do the whole circle all the way around.

The people: I cannot beleive such a crowd of unhappy, sour, annal people could exist. Maybe it's cause I am from Montreal and everyone here is so fucking nice and happy and receptive to smiles or anything of the sort, but I was actually scared at one point to look people in the eyes because NO ONE WOULD RESPOND TO EVEN A SIMPLE SMILE! The only people I talked to all night were other Montrealers who were also having the worst night of their lives.

Where has the scene in Toronto gone? I refuse to say this is the scene in Toronto because this is the only event I have attended there, but to hear people say this was INSANE, or THE BEST LOL EVER, makes me confused. I have attended CElebration, Bal, Swirl for the past 2 or 3 years and they compare IN NO WAY to LOL2005.

ANYWAYS, I think I am now just ranting about my evening and how it was actually possible for something like that to exist.

THANK GOD FOR THE MUSIC. Blank & Jones played and Armin played the best 6 hours of music I have ever heard, it was amazing, incredible ... too bad the only people I had to share it with were the band of sour apples surrounding me. I would scream "Great SOng!" they would look back at me with disgust, WTF???

Oh yea, what is with the camera's ?? Everyone had camera's and were snapping pictures... I weas actually asked suring the Armin set to move out of the way so someone could get a good picture.

Sorry to hear that you had such a shitty time...

This was my first LoL as well and I knew what to expect with the crowd... you do get quite a few of the crowd that aren't there for the music at all.. it is cuz they heard Deep Dish on z103 or something crazy like that..
But you should be glad everything was one way.. have you ever been to that club when it isn't.. when there is no structure on how to get around?? Trying shoving approximately 10,000 people in that venue and not having it set up that way.. I will tell you from experience it is hell People are pushy and you aren't able to move anywhere!! So I can understand your frustration with that but seriously.. be thankful or you never would have gotten to any room or to see any dj you wanted too.

Although to classify all of us as "a crowd of unhappy, sour, annal people".. I think that is a little extreme! Because I know several of us there who weren't.. but hey.. it is your opinion and you had a shitty time. I know I have been to SEVERAL venues in different places and you get that crowd everywhere.. not just hear in Toronto. It is really unfortunate though, cuz people don't just go to these events for the music anymore.

As for the cameras.. What is wrong with that??I don't like the fact that when I come to Montreal I CAN'T bring a camera.. it is called getting pictures of your friends, dj's, the moments and all the memories of the night. When you are trying to take a picture out of the street or wherever and you stop the traffic from walking infront of your camera so you can capture that moment or take the pic, don't you think those people you stopped may have been annoyed? maybe you slowed them down by 2 seconds and they were in a rush and pissy about it.. but aren't you glad you still have that photo for the memory??

Just so that you know.. if you were in Kool Haus.. you should have been off to the side a little up near the front.. cuz there was space to move and no one in your way or anything...front and centre in that venue was brutal... You would have been MUCH happier off to the side alittle, I can almost guarantee it.

OK.. now I know you really WERE in the wrong place!!!

I danced for 12 hours straight with no breaks/sitting time.
We were off to the side dancing our asses off soooo hard!! We looked like we were on drugs too.. oh wait a minute.. we were
People are fools when they look at you that way... I get looks all the time... And I am sure the ones you get the looks from are the ones who aren't there for the music... that is when I get pissed off!!!

OK, where were you all night! I would have loved to be chillin with you ... I felt so unconfortable and probably was in the wrong place, I was right in front where pwople were just standing there. I was LOVING the music so bad and would look around to see who I could share the experience with but there was no one ...

The thing about the cameras, is bring as many as you want, but when everyone is trying to have a great time and 100 people are tying to snap shots of the DJ while he is spinning, I was getting upset. I was being pushed around by people making room for their friends to take pictures.... I love to have a camera also so take pics of me and my friends, its the best thing to have. SOrry about that comment.

Too bad we didnt bump into each other!!!

Dude...seriously.. it is all good.. fuck.. I was probably one of the ones who asked you to move so I could take a pic

But yeah.. I was up at the front.. but off to the left side in front of the speaker!! I had the best time and I also stayed in the same spot for the whole time in KH just so I didn't have to deal with the crowds.. It is really brutal there but FOR ONCE, it was actually very organzied for this large crowd

I really am sorry that you felt so uncomfortable
People just don't have any respect for the ones who are jumping around, dancing around and carrying on who are OBVIOUSLY having a good time and enjoying the music and aren't there just to get high or whatever their reason is for going to these events!! My friend Nada at one point in time even jumped up on the stage in KH to dance like a crazy ****** like the rest of us

Next time (if there ever is one ) PM me or msg in the TOTA forum.. if I would have seen one I totally would have told you to come hook up with us! MAYBE next time

That's right, Elie you fucking moron!!!! Give TOTAs a call sometime!!! When you hang with us there is NO FUCKING way you'll have a bad time...

It's you Montreal tuff guys with your fucking pride "Oh, I'm too cool to tell TOTAs I'm coming over cuz I'm such an experienced partier that I don't need anyone" that prevents you from meeting new people and partying with them.

btw, j/k. If you had told Taha or anyone else that posts on MTL that you were coming, they would have totally suggested you to contact me or Jenn (magikb) and we would have met up...then you would be posting a review like the ones posted here:

LoL was some fun shit, man. I got a group of Asian parents to dance like meth'ed out weasels. To tell the truth, Blank and Jones had an amazing set as did Mini but some type of mystical self-loathing permeated the atmosphere like a wet blanket. Anyway, don't join the scene, make the scene, right? Dancing wildly only requires one pair of feet...

Obviously you haven't learned anything from being in the scene for such a long time.

Luke fair is most probably one of the best Canadian Dj's out there ( With hawtins, preach, mateo, brad copeland, czech, and many many many others) and he's also a well respected producer, You might not like him, but you have no right whatsoever to say that he's not a good dj. I've seen him way too many times, and most of the time he completly destroy the clubs ( wherever he is )
