Their hard shell would prevent their damage from the repeated blows, and their hilarious apperance could add a light heartedness to tennis observers that a baby whale might not be able to achieve.

there are little kangaroos in Australia that are called "Quockas" (that are more similar to wallabies). They are the size of a football. It is actually illegal to play Quocka soccer in Australia. A guy has even been given a 2 year jail term for playing quocka soccer; the red card was raised & everything. It was a hot local news story.

According to google.com's 'Im Feeling Lucky' button a Quocka is "A very rare marsupial, the butt of much molestation by camping Bruces on the only island in the world on which it exists; such as:

'Quockas on the bbq' or 'quocka soccer'"

yes. Rottnest Island. The place where school leavers party like it's 2999.

50% of all people who visit the island are coincidently named Bruce. hmmmm

form follows function... think about it.

allways get you function right, and afterwards start thinking about the form.

when I was in studying interiordesign
I made a scale of a chair that you could turn around and then it became a table for ironing you clothes

they didn't like it though

Very rarely can both be achieved at the same time.

I do have an exemple that came close:

Cashmere & Goretex blend jacket.
Practical but difficult to make into a fashionable item.
610 bucks ain't a bad price for a jacket either

I guess what I'm getting at is that too often form is used to mask lack of function.

Airplanes need form to function. Aerodynamics not only looks sexy, its the only reason why some things work. Other than that...form just makes the object sell....which serves as a function of the economy, which on some piece of paper says the economy functions for us.
