THE WOMBLES collection

i was a huge fan of these books called "Frog and Toad"...they consisted of a bunch of small stories about these 2 best friends..one was a frog and the other was a toad. they would go on all these crazy adventures together and of course run into some sort of trouble that they would have to get around. now that im talking about them...im gunna go try and dig up these books and take another look at them. hahaha

OMG that is such a Limey thing...I remember those books now that I see them again...For sure my mom read them to me...Thanks for the memories!

especially the BFG (big friendly giant), the wonderful world of henry sugar and the swan.

Scarecrow Worzel Gummidge and Aunt Sally stories were always laying about the house too but frankly they were quite frightening.

no way. that's awesome. I am going to ask my mom if she still has the doll I had of Worzel... he was made of sponge and came with several plastic heads that you could pop off and change around...so he could go from Scarecrow to Man. If I find it I will share it with your hubby.

There was one collection of books i used to read when i was really little but i can't remember the name! It was about a royal family with the baby, the gardener, the nanny, etc. Had to do with their sort of every day life. I wish i could remember what it was called

Bill Peet books were some of my favourites too, if not my very favourites!!!! The drawings inspired me to draw (I used to draw manically all thru public and high school). Truly inspirational these books were on me. I still look at the covers and wanan pick up a pencil and sketch! WOw~! I am still amazed! THE WUMPS was a truly wonderful book. I feel the need to re-read these books or go out and purchase them RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

And Ronald Dahl... he is _THE_ reason I got hooked on reading! I STILL enjoy his books, Matilda being my favourite! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE his novels. The depictions too. They completely trigger my imagination like nothing else. I've read them ALL!

OMG... this is so wonderful... LOL...

My other personal favourites growing up were the Berenstain Bears and the Little Critter's...







I had EVERY FUCKING SINGLE Berenstain Bear book out there (I swear to Jesus and Moses!!!!!). And my dad really enjoyed the Critters ones more, so he read a lot of those to us!! We (me and my bro) had a MILLION of them too.

My favourite Berenstain Bears book HAD to be a special extra think and tall one i had about Nature or something. Told you about the trees and shit... like as you were taken through a forest... and my VERY VERY favourite (still a strong strong memory) of the Critter's books were the X-mas ones! OMG! They were sooooo fantastic! I LOVE LOVE LOVED them!! The Little Critter's Christmas book was phenomenal. I remember laughing so hard I cried the first Christmas time my dad read it to me as a kid. I just couldn't stop laughing uncontrollably. I can still recall turning the pages and seeing them marching in the snow to get their family Christmas tree... trying to chop it down and bring it home. I can STILL remember looking for that black spider who was always included SOMEWHERE on every single page (almost).... you just had to keep an eye out for him! OMG... wow... so vivid and wonderful still. I want to re-purchase these for this Christmas so I have them around.

Guys, these are fantastic memories. What a great thread. It really is wonderful to have these memories associated to your childhood.

+1 to the greatest and most meaningful thread I've read in a long time! Thank you.
