I am totally excited for Michelle and Kris for getting pulled up on stage. WOW those are huge hearts. WAY TO GO GIRLS

dude, whats up with the ghetto DJ booth set up though? A white sheet drapped over cement blocks? But i do see some LATAs standing up front as usual. weeeeee

Might have been only a white sheet, but the WHOLE setup of the stage was fricking amazing. Seven huge High-Def screens with some of the most insane (ie. WEIRD) visuals that went with the music so well, it was scary! The center high circule screen with the ring of lights around it. Only think it was all missing was a laser....the trance room had the wicked laser, but the lighting in that room was bleh.

much better location than last year!!! a party infront of SF city hall is something i thought i would never see...great event overall- nice to have all the grass to lay out on, tons of freaks, and naked people(old dirty men wtf!!!)...great float by SPUNDAE/SKILLS(best sound by far)markus, ferry,dj dan, and carl cox all riped up...REALLY didsapointed to see CARL COX only play for 20 mins though WTF??never the less he still beat every one up with some nasty house/techno, wish he would of played a little harded, but i am sure he was saving that for later...too many floats, such little time to catch everything....desyn masiello played a funky/techy set that was SOLID, but being that float was next to the skills/spundae float it got kinda overlooked....next year they should reduce the amount of floats
by 4 or 5, way to much sound bleeding from float to float....AMAZING EVENT OVERALL...see you at LOVE PARADE 06!!!

by the way...what the hell was up with that little yellow float with no music, next to the Drum and Bass float??5-6 DIRTY,FAT girls showing there buttholes and tits to everyone??PLEASE WIPE NEXT TIME!!

skills/spundae after party was great too...LONG LINES!! 1 1/2 for PRESALES!!!AMAZING SOUND, and preduction...6 huge screens in the main room, and a great light setup...ULTRA WMC quality...too bad i was too tired to enjoy most of it...13 hours of drinking and standing up killed me by 1 am....

YOJIMBO SECURITY baby!!!!

Haha, so I just walked down to Walgreens and some guy stopped me to say he has a shitload of pictures of me that he's putting up on the internet, he recognized me from when I was dancing on the float. HAHAHAHA

Posted by StanVoid on Sep-25-2005 23:05:

does anyone know the name of the track Ferry played in the beginning of his set (at the afterparty), it had vocals singing something about "love me like that"

That has to be wrong. There was 37,000 when final estimates were done last year and I thought there were A LOOOOOOOOOOTTT more people this year....things were crazy shoulder to shoulder pakced at points for most floats.

The treet/concession area in the middle sorta gave off the feeling that it wasn't as packed when you look at it from any one point of view, but if you walked around...

blank and jones definetly had the best set that night, but the damn power cuts messed it up good. especially when they were playing 'Nu - NRG - dreamland" DURING THE BREAKDOWN!! i was ready to explode, and then it went away, i was maaaaad. but they're set was absolutely amazing, and my second fav was above&beyond's! they played "sunny Lax - P.U.M.A." which i copmpletely lost my mind to and went absolutely crazy, lol! I was in the front row right by the DJ's the whole entire time in room2. i did not want to leave from there so i never left. not even for water. i had an awesome time and i see that you guys did too!

Posted by ninetyninej on Sep-26-2005 00:18:

looks like the party was a success and was enjoyed by everyone....shame I had to miss it

oh well 2006 I will be at WMC and LP (no more probation!)

Posted by DaveT on Sep-26-2005 01:17:

I got to hear parts or all of of Evil Nine's, Carl Cox's, DJ Dan's, Bad Boy Bill's, Deep Voices, Mike Koglin, Blank & Jones, Markus Schulz, and Ferry Corsten's set.

I though Markus' set was the best, honestly. He played quite hard and did a good job coming off of BBB's set...saw BBB caused the main room to clear out a tad, but Markus brought the people back in. Deep Voices surprised me and were good, IMO. Mike Koglin is just insane fun....lots of classive cheese, lol. Blank & Jones were playing some quality tracks, but their mixing seemed quick and rushed...Ferry was quality overall as well.

I hope there are some videos recorded both from the parade and the after party.

This is a long post. Read at your own risk.

What a night. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the parade itself, but I heard great things from my friends who did. 40K+ people! Hopefully we'll have even more DJs next year. On to the afterparty.

I've been busy with work lately so I haven't had time to think much about arguably the biggest party in the Bay Area this year. Parking was ridiculous around the Civic Center because 1)the streets within one block radius of the auditorium remained closed from the parade during the day and 2)the large Civic Center public parking structure across the street from the auditorium, no less, was closed for the day.(makes no sense, but when it comes to traffic and parking in S.F. you always lose) Fortunately, I was with a friend who allowed us to get in right away. Once I walked in, I had flashbacks of New Year's massives at the Cow Palace. A large chaotic scene and a lot of kids. Then it dawned on me that it was an 18+ event. Then I quickly started to repeat to myself, "imagine how crowded it is at ten15 right now, imagine how crowded it is at ten15 right now" and I felt much better.

Let me quickly recap the quirks and nuisances of the night before I tell you about what we were all there for - the great music. I'm relatively a newbie when it comes to these things, so please feel free to chastise me for being petty if these are common occurances at massives.
-No coatcheck. I normally don't need it, but I think Bay Area people are used to wearing layers - meaning that they'd want to take their jackets off and put it somewhere safe while they get their groove on.
-No twistcaps were allowed for water bottles. I had to either find a safe spot on the ground to prevent it from spilling, or hold on to it on the dance floor with no cap. Maddening.
-No map of the venue to specify where stages two and three were. Three different people asked me about the stages while I was waiting at the bar for my no-cap bottle of water. All it took was to have ONE large diagram near the lobby, denoting the three stages and which DJs(and their set times) will be spinning at each stage. Is that too much to ask? Did I just completely miss this? It's not like the organizers would benefit from having people lost and missing out on their favorite DJs. Unless we had insider information that Polk Auditorium(?) was "stage two", you had to basically wade through dozens of glowsticks, ravers, and angel wings to even figure out that Blank & Jones is playing on the stage right now(assuming that you know what they look like). Only then would one conclude that this must be stage two, meaning that the room on the OTHER side of the main stage one must be stage three... I mean... this would only add to the chaos and people running around. Right? Again, if there was a map/diagram, then... I'm an idiot. Let's move on.

*** End of rant ***

Music was amazing, which made up for it ALL. Once I got situated with my friends at stage two to catch Blank & Jones, it was all thumpin', melodic trance.(with the exception of the power cutting out on them not once, not twice, but THREE times... I'll leave it up to other reviewers to express their annoyance about that one; B&J handled it brilliantly, though, imo because if you think Oakey would not have just stormed out if it happens to him twice, then you're crazy) I, as many of you have as well, read the set times in TA forum, and was a bit disappointed how short each of your favorite DJ was spinning. Last night, I didn't even pay attention to the set lengths. Mike Koglin had everyone nicely warmed up by the time B&J came on. I have to say that B&J were amazing, churning out the likes of "No One On Earth"(?) and Killer's "Mr. Brightside". As mentioned the power cut out three times, but the place was jumping regardless. Above & Beyond came on and kept the crowd jumping with a classic Delirium's "Silence", "Sirens of the Sea", and their new track, "Alone Tonight". No dice on them playing "Satellite". Maybe Paavo held on to the track for himself back at home. Would have loved to hear the crowd sing along as they did the last time they played it, though. As soon as Tony and Jono left the stage, I quickly moved to stage one, along with 328 others, where Ferry had started his set 30 minutes before. This is when I realized that yes, the auditorium does, indeed, have a ventilation system - just not in the side rooms. Ferry is Ferry. Guaranteed good times, as I say. The man just never lets up on his energy. How he manages to continuously build up the music without ever relenting... I know it makes no logical sense, but that's what I'm saying, folks. "Lately", "Without You" from his latest ablum, and the ever-so-overplayed-but-who-cares-because-you-know-you-love-it-anthem, "Punk". At the end of the night Ferry glanced over at his watch, he held up four fingers, then one. Got it - four minutes left, one more track. And he starts spinning, " Just a great night.

Alright, my 5382-word limit is almost up. All in all, small issues aside(can't please everyone, right?), the party was amazing and my friends and I had a great time.(albeit 18+) I can't wait for next year.

P.S. Sorry I missed all the TAs... I didn't want to miss out on the music. I think I may have seen DJWoody in the front for B&J, but didn't see Chris or Michelle. I guess I'll just have to hook up with y'all when I fly down for Ferry every month for the next six.

I have Markus Schulz and Carl Cox's parade sets. If someone has hosting I'll encode them

Posted by ninetyninej on Sep-26-2005 02:33:

fury I can host them but how big are the file sizes?

Posted by MR STROKE on Sep-26-2005 02:35:

HOW could you have missed the rooms and set times?
1-they were EVERYWHERE on the internet
2-when you picked up your ticket, there were STACKS of line up/set time cards...as well as THOUSANDS of flyers with set times and room locations laying on the floors..

Posted by fury on Sep-26-2005 02:35:

I dunno how big it'll be, the sets are about 30 minutes each.

Posted by ninetyninej on Sep-26-2005 02:36:

well depending on how big they are I can host them....if they are too big for my hosting I'm sure someone on here can

Posted by *InVeRs3* on Sep-26-2005 03:19:

ID these tunes please.....

the funky tune you can breakdance to.... it was either dan or the guy before him. I was in the loooooong line when I listened to it.

Didn't make it to the parade but wish I did from all the reviews and pics. As for the Offical After Party it self... some trouble parking (as usual in SF), long lines, power hicups during Blank & Jones. Other than that it was an amazing night. Glad I went to it instead of 1015.

I missed this as well

Also did anyone happen to grab a high res picture up from the balcony during Ferry's set?

Posted by FuzzyChicken on Sep-26-2005 03:41:

For next year it would be cool to see less DJs with longer set times, rather than packing Markus/Ferry/A&B/KvA/B&J all in at once. More quality rather than quantity. I dunno just my opinion I guess. But a great night it was.

Posted by DaveT on Sep-26-2005 03:56:

It's a massive and that's just how massive's typically work - sets are anywhere from 30 minutes - 90 minutes. At least we can be thankful that the whole event was stuffed full of locals in order to make the the set times short. There just happened to be a ton of headliners.

As far as a map of all the rooms...upon entry there were tables all over the place outside with tons and tons of little flyers that had a map and all the set times...nice and small and could fit in your pocket.

AWESOME TIMES!!!!

Review later...

In the mean time, here' some picts I took!

Posted by Psiweaver on Sep-26-2005 04:29:

I tried meeting as many ta's as i could but i just didn't have time to meet you all. I was the big guy in either a white blank and jones shirt or a blue amoeba music shirt. I kept coming up to different ta's and saying hi. I met Idoru, Nou, DJFaded, and a few others.

As for the music it was simply amazing a wonderful year. Love parade was fantastic spent pretty much the entire night in the trance room other than the time i spent watching carl cox.

When we bypassed the long line, we were just glad to be inside that we didn't bother looking at the tables in the front. Also, I purchased my tickets at a ticket outlet and they didn't have any maps. I knew the time slots, but just wasn't sure which room was which. Like I said, I completely missed the small and convenient fliers, so... I'm an idiot.

Great party, regardless. I hope everyone made it back home safely.
