hmm i guess. but aren't you happy people like me exist? otherwise, what model would you base your dating life around?

And allcentury18, I appreciate it, but your advice I know is already sort of off the mark for this sort of situation. I really do appreciate your input, but I know my girlfriend, and I can tell this is not a test of my force of will. And you're missing the point anyway - I don't find these thoughts unattractive, I'd be neutral towards it if it wasn't something that makes her unhappy from time to time. And this is not affecting my feelings for her at all. I still love her the same. She's told me she has had alot of image and comfort problems - she doesn't like going to the beach, for example, because she's so uncomfortable in a bathing suit.

I do think I am communicating to her, our relationship is very close and very personal, that's why it's a cause of concern for me because I care alot about her happiness and would like to help her find a way to overcome this lack of confidence.

edit- and i can kind of already tell where the advice in this thread is going to lead..whatev. Toss in all opinions!! I'm open for them

hm....was she kind of an ugly duckling turned into swan type thing? sorta like those girls that aren't the best looking when they're younger but then grow up to really be gorgeous. maybe she has poor self esteem from when she was younger, and has never really believed that she grew to be better looking. i guess all you can do, is to keep telling her that she's beautiful, and hopefully it'll click someday. if not, then just sit down with her and tell her what you're feeling and why you're frusturated.

My ex had a similar deal, she was beautiful, but didn't think so, and for some reason never photographed well.

I think she told me the most beautiful she ever felt was when she woke up one morning and I was lying there, just looking into her eyes (she has the most amazing eyes, I'd get lost in the all the time), and I just lay there for about 5 mins looking into her eyes and smiling softly, neither of us said a word.

Ahhhh... happy days

being past relationship advice? theres no way thats possible. i'll see a thread in here in due time about how your relationship went to shit and you don't know why.

thread originator: you don't have to take my advice, i fully understand your situation though. the HARDEST part about all the things i tell you is not whether or not they are true. psychoanalysts are so good at stripping apart ficticious ideals that people hold on to during relationships. what you'll realize is that 3rd party views, although skued, are usually the more sensible ones. in this entire thread you took your g/f's defense and shut out most answers that, people just don't get it. or you dont know her like i do.

if you have the ability to step outside your own reality and look at this analytically, do it. you can't sit there and say, "she thinks this... " but defend her in your own mind by saying "yeah she thinks this, but i know this..."
