I preferred Richie when he wasn't borrowing Sven's stylist.

there are a few *hawt* techno djs... he doesn't come to mind for me as one of them though!
but whateva.. it's all about the music.. right!?

Hey don't get me wrong, I listen to it all. Good call on the sven impersonating, though. You're dead on. :P

The first time I saw Richie sans glasses and with hair, was at Mutek 2 years ago at Metropolis, he was actually playing for 10 minutes before I clued in it was him.. mind you I didn't have my glasses but still.. hehe

then when he played Ottawa he was hanging around the club with someone else who looks like they had Sven's stylist (maybe it was!!) and he was totally incognito as no one but me and some people I was with seemed to recognize him at first. We talked for about 10 or 15 minutes, he was really nice.. said his gig in Toronto the night before was one of his favs all year.

That's awesome. It's always great to see artists who havent bought into their own hype. I mean, not that hawtin is tiesto or anything, but regardless he has quite a name.

Posted by Kate Manus on Oct-05-2005 12:37:

hard to compare Richie to Tiesto.. Tiesto played at the Olympics yes, but Richie is a legend in his own right.. and revered by many as a genius of his craft.
Tiesto is more a product of marketing IMO.

of all the globe trotting djs I have met though, the most chill was probably Thomas Krome
burned a j with him.. hehe

Was that in January? He played a really good gig in January of 2004 at system...I played in the side room
(funny, if it was though...being in January it's pretty easy for it to be one of his faves all year)

ahhh.. you have a point.. actually, he most likely said something to the effect of 'best gigs I have had in awhile or long time' or something, but the general idea was there. He was playing the next night with Mateo Murphy in Montreal too.
He played a GREAT set at surface that night.. definitely harder than i expected.. he hadn't played ottawa since the old Atomic days (RIP).

correction for what i mentioned earlier.. Donald Glaude is the *most* chill, but that is a different comparison altogether.

you guys all saw him ( I seem to recall) on a Thursday night - may 6 2004 - playing boring shit with mateo murphy..
the stormin' set was the Friday night at the RM party.. sooo good. I have a copy of that set too somewhere.

anyway.. people have their own taste, but I think many who hadn't seen him before assumed he plays like he did on the thursday which really couldn't be much farther from reality. It's not what he plays at the big clubs and festivals in europe.

i'll have to chance the subject a little but ...

I really don't see what the fuss is all about for that night ??

I mean yeah the line-up is stellar, but we all know that the guvernment will be pack as the day is long. I don't see how anyone can have sort of fun in these condition ? Plus all these artists will all be performing at the same time, people will only get to hear pieces of everyone's set if they want to hear everybody. Plus for the rest of the month Toronto is pretty much dead, not much happening afar from the guv's 9th birthday ?

Whereas we get a shitload of artists in Octobre in Montreal in different arrays of electronic music ( yeah i'll agree not enough techno for your tastes kate but still ) and most of these artists are not playing the same night as another one.

So my money is on Montreal !

That is right.. there is more going on in Montreal than Toronto this month.. but you know why??

Toronto has already had most of these dj's and you are getting our sloppy seconds (except for the top 7 dj's..which are all within this weekend and next)

so Krinker, you can say what you like baby.. but we still RULE YOU!!!

I have made a few corrections/additions to your toronto list.

One of our major clubs is closed in October - if it were open, guaranteed we would have many of the same house/tribal/gay bookings that Stereo has.
