Just blew one right now...oh wait, "fasting". Sorry misread.

Yes sir, Im fasting as well. The great thing about fasting this year for me is that I cant smoke while i'm fasting, this gave me an idea to quit smoking all together because I was thinking about doing that alltogether anyways.
Basically, you eat a bit b4 sunrise and from that point until sunset you cant eat, drink (even water), swear, smoke, sex, anything 'bad' basically. It doesn't say you cant listen to music. :P

uhhhh. I've never heard of this.
If it so, I am assuming you are not suppose to listening to music to do with swearing, fornicating or whatever. It's unlikely.
Who told you this?

i'm fasting as well, i dont have a problem with not eating the whole day but i find that my energy level goes way down. i tend to eat alot more during ramadan thats why i have a hard time staying fit.
i remember when i was a kid i would try to trick myself in forgeting that i'm fasting and try to go eat( because if you forget its ok your fast is still fine ).
another time me and a friend of mine we would open the fridge and start eating everything we find. then we would lie and tell everybody that we are still fasting, we would do it a bunch of times untill we got caught by my older brother, we tried bribing him by offering him food and we would promise that we wont tell if he wont tell( we were kids at the time ).

^^^lol...yea i remember those days....we would come up with variations like u cant eat but drinking is fine or fast only till noon...lol...ahh the good old innocent days

Music being haraam is debated at the scholar levels constantly. There is a lot of research and literature on the merits of each side of the argument.
Some researchers say that the only use of music at the time of the Prophet was for a drum beat during war, and any other form (i.e. today's modern form) is not permitted.
One aspect of music (especially trance...lol even the title says so) is that it can put you into a "trance" where you're not thinking clearly; kind of like the effect of alcohol or drugs...Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (may he rest in peace) was notorious for this kind of music and getting his listeners into a state of "mast".
That's the extreme effect that I would imagine makes music off-limits to strict Muslims.
In general, my logic tells me that it's just another distraction from thinking about God all the time (which is what the most pious and devout Muslims would support). But I'm not one of them, so bring on THRILLSEEKERS!!!!
But, uh, it's for that distraction point that I don't listen to music this month (and each moment that I miss the music I instead concentrate on God and be thankful for His blessings...more than I would for any other month)...
...yeah that kinda sucks and we should be more consistent with our approach and stuff; but one good month out of 12 is better than NO good months! LOL!!!
Heaven, HERE I COME!!! (after 11 lifetimes in hell LOL!!!)

A truly excellent and frontier-breaking musician.
Much respect to those devout Muslims who are performing their duty of Siyam and observing Ramadan. This is by any measure no easy task and is a good reflection of the strength of faith. My thoughts are with you in this time of worship and contemplation.

I'll be fasting....but only for 24 hours on Yom Kippur....
Although, gotta give you guys props for doing this for a whole month...and I thought an entire day was bad!
Well, we do have to fast for 24 hrs straight...no water, no gum, NOTHING...so it is a bit tough. Especially when you gotta sit in synagogue all friggin day long and go crazy from hunger
Can you guys drink water at least throughout the day?

nice knowledge ,but there is more to do you have to pray 5 times a day, can't even chew a gum,if have some health problems and can't fast you shouldn't eat or drink infront of others. lool i am sure there is more but my brain can't remember now, thanks to god i gut rid of that shit and i am in canada, cause back home from sun rise to sunset every restaurant or etc were officialy closed, imagnie how broing is that, and you must not eat in public,if they found out ,you could go to jail and pay high fines.
Remember the hard times that i had at school while ramadan ,the cafeteria in school was closed and we couldn't eat or drink anything till the school ended...couldn't even have a cigerate in public.
Like it's rediculues ,if you don't believe in something you shouldn't be forced to do it,doesn't matter what holy thing it is.
i personaly have no problmes with people that they fast and pray and don't force it. But if you do force it,it's not respectful and it's totally wrong.
Posted by Ace_of_Spades on Oct-09-2005 16:35:
hahaha remember one more, if you'r fasting (for males) you can't listen to music that has woman vocales!!!
if you listen to it it's called "haram" and you'r fasting is expired!
Posted by Abercrombie on Oct-09-2005 16:59:
A nice cold beer is nice after sunset.
Posted by raveed on Oct-09-2005 23:29:
its amazing to see how ppl fasting during this holy month actually mak it through 30 days without breaking their fast ... i know ppl who are over a pack a day smokers and during this time they dont touch cigarettes ... guess ramadan is a true test of your character...
ps: if you cant have sex then how do prostitutes observing ramadan survive?
Posted by TranceGrooves on Oct-10-2005 00:03:
if you are a muslim that observes ramazan then u wont be a protitute and if u r a prostitute then u wont be a muslim that observes ramazan.

That's hilarious!!!!
And to mr. extacy_bomb, if you're in a Muslim country where the government is integrated with the religion and the majority of citizens are Muslim then it makes sense to do what they do during Ramadan!
It's like taking Christmas Day off! I don't celebrate Christmas but at the same time I don't get upset when I can't do my groceries on Dec. 25!!!
But I understand, we're talking about a whole month for Ramadan, but most likely it's a hot climate so it's better to go shopping in the evening, isn't it?
