Hmm, I learned it as "liquor before beer, you have nothing to fear". "In the clear" doesn't have the right amount of syllables. 
Anyway, the best cure for a hangover is beer. I'm not kidding, either.
easy solution:

Near the end of the night, I start drinking water and making bread donuts to give my stomach a rest before I pass out...

Just stick to me - I never get hang overs if I do that.
But in case you would anyways (or decide to mix and match 
), then before passing, drink serveral cups of water so you won't dehydrate whilst sleeping, and eat some bread!! 
That'll help absorb the alki in your tummy, make for a much better morning.
I suppose maybe popping 2 or 3 Advils before passing could help too, though I've never tried this myself so I am unsure. Maybe it'll just help you sleep less fitfully in case you start to experience the symptoms while you are sleeping and haven't woken up yet.

If you drink a lot of water the morning after drinking lots of tequila, the water will rehydrate the tequila and you'll get tipsy again.
Silly I know.

I don't know, I usually tryig to go pure vodka without mixing, getting drunk and there is no handgover next morning. Water is a killer though, miixng more alchohol with water makes me much more drunk...or maybe it is all in the head...
Do not mix different type of drinks, especially white drinks with color ones.
I don't know about the drinking thing but I do know.... Always k before Crystal, never Crystal then K.
I've always found this works well for me. If I'm going to be doing a lot of drinking, always at some point in the night, I'll start having vodka waters, with a lemon. The nice thing is you'll still be drinking, and you'll be rehydrating yourself so you don't feel like complete shit the day after. Chase your shots with that, chase your beers with that, chase your chasers with that, it really helps keep you drunk and feeling better the next day. If you start chugging water exclusively at the the end of the night, you still tend to feel pretty shitty. This at least keeps you drinking some water throughout the night, which is a lot easier to do than tyring to have 1 or 2 litres all at once.
Oh, and if you prefer, you can use a different liquor, but I like vodka.
