-- how long do you hold your mix?

it all varies. When I'm mixing at home I usually take my time with mixes, let them ride out for 2+ minutes. But playing out is a different story and I usually like to make my mixes shorter and to the point.

16 to 32 measures. its really hard to keep things beatmatched beyond 64 measures with warped records and by that time, i'm already like a quarter way into the record and i do have to look for the next record and cue before the second breakdown...

I know my tracks so when the song thats currently playing only has a couple measures of beats left i usually bring in the cued one and hold it for like 1 - 1 1/2 min

I'd say it also depends on the genre. When I'm mixing trance, my transitions are usually 2-3 min. When it comes to house or breaks they're usually around a 1 to 1.5 mins.

50 secs - 2 minutes tops, depending on the track. I know myself and I know I can't pull off Sasha style 4 minute mixes on vinyl.

you guys mixing for 5 minutes are crazy. i would say 45 seconds to 2.5 minutes max. depends on the song though.

well im a noob and i dont like to hold my mixes for more than a minute just because my beatmatching still needs perfection. still practicing

Posted by Doctor-No on Oct-23-2005 04:42:

as long as it has to...

Posted by jupiterone on Oct-23-2005 06:13:

i loop the beginning percussion samples of every incoming song onto the entire outgoing tune. so its basically like 8-10 minute mixing..then i layer other track samples and acapellas over that, effects, screatchy scratching, and im learning to use reaktor to add more sampling and synth production into my mixes.

im getting ahold of beatmatching without headphones now too.

For those who mixes more than 2 mins long, do you use more than 2 TTs?

I preffer to mix 1-1.5 or max 2 !! yes it depends on track to track. looping the next tracks part and using it as a sample is fun.
