as others have said "HL2 was a physics demonstation wrapped as a game"
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't ALL DAT

Wow I think im the only one here who actually liked quake4 more than Fear. I dunno why but fear got old after a while. Walk down hallways that all look the same until u come up too a bunch of soldiers. Hit slowmo gun them all down and repete.

Ware as Quake4 had intense environments, lots of different/interesting baddies too fight, and was intensly fast pased, the graphics were beautiful and just all around a bunch of fucked up shit happins.

*****SPOILER*****

Plus the scene ware u get turned into a strogg was just plane violent. The entire time you watch the guy in the bed in front of you get poked and proded with all this different shit. Just sitting there thinking... Ok this isent gunna happin too me. The marines are gunna come smash down the door any second now. But it dosent happin until its all too late

***End Spoiler***

The little girl in the red dress in Fear was... cute I guess and I did like the feel of the weapons. But it all just got soo old. Running around places that all looked the same.

Quake 4 is an embarassment to the original Quake, which is a classic FPS in every sense of the word.

to be fair tho, its harder and harder for developers to constantly eclipse classics we got in the 90s. what else is there to be done in the world of FPS shooters for instance? theyve been very sub-par for years now, and imo i reckon ID's releases have been far better than the competitors'.

sure, theyre not all complicated & innovating, just good clean (and stable as fvck!) shooting fun. it is a first person SHOOTER after all.

D3 & Q4 definitely leagues ahead of FEAR & HL2. HL was a disappointment (tho still generally enjoyable) whilst FEAR outright sucked *yawn*

There is a difference between a game not being as good as a previous version and just downright sucking balls (like Quake 4). ID put out Doom 3 which was an awesome game.

It doesn't have to be complicated or innovating, Painkiller wasn't and it was an awesome game, so was Serious Sam, both mindless fun.

Quake 4 is leagues agead of F.E.A.R . Care to explain what makes Doom 3 and Quake 4 so much better than F.E.A.R or Half Life 2? The only yawn's I got from the game was how easy it was, whereas with Quake I actualy fell asleep during the game.

see, i found serious sam awfully repetitive. i thought the ideas were there but the execution felt like i was playing a platformer on the master system

HL2: really enjoyed parts of it. and i thought the physics modelling was the best ive seen. and damn those water effects! even on my shitty system.
but fvck, i just found the overall game to be boring. i hate the weapons. those stupid fvcking little creatures that jump at you? i mean, fvck, do we HAVE to put up with them the whole fvcking damn game? there wasnt a story (tho thats not always a problem for me) yet tried to pretend it did. thought the enemies were all pretty uninspired. there was no atmosphere.

all the ID games imo have excelled at creating an atmosphere. doom 3 scared the fvck out of me and was the most intense gaming experience ive ever had (with the possible exception of massive Q3 LANs ). HL had gimmicks like "lets play on the big crane".

and dont get me started on STEAM

D3 was gorgeous, ran rock solid, and was good at what it set out to achieve. now of course graphics arent everything, but theres only so far for the boundaries of something like a shooter to go.

much of the stuff in HL2 felt arcadey & forced rather than innovative or clever (tho the lionbug thing bit was cool) and i guess i always felt as though i was playing a game instead of being totally immersed (which is the trait of a good game imo).

FEAR just wasnt for me, thought the engine was crap, the overall physics were ordinary and just didnt see anything that made me think it deserved its reputation. and the MP was abysmal. i might not have given it a long time to bond with me, but these days its an instant love em or hate em in the FPS world for me.

to be fair tho im probably just getting old and gaming is losing its lustre but for me i think ID/raven/activision (whomever did what) have achieved what they set out to do better than any of the competition.

i went to my local lan and beat Quake 4 in one sitting. took 8 hours.
all in all, i'd wait for a price drop until i buy it. The multiplayer lacked a lot of Quake 2 features. One thing that bugs me is the difficulty of jumping on top of boxes.
