Ok..im not going to bash Toronto as if you look, almost every big name act plays the 2 cities a day apart when they come.I've been to Toronto at least 30 times, and have spent the last year living near Miami.Toronto and Miami have great clubs great bookings...what puts Montreal in a seperate leaugue is the crowd.I'm sorry, but you just dont have that same party and have fun with everyone atmosphere in TO or Miami.F**K the fashion show, bring the beats!Partying should not be about status or a way of looking...it should be all about having fun.Just my 2 cents...feel free to bash me because i have a different opinion than you...every time it is done it just serves to prove my point.

My opinionz on the T.O. "scene" or on any "scene" for that matter, are simple....The club you attend is what YOU and your friends make of it...I don't care if theres a huge asian corner in the club then a gino corner on the other side, clubs are big places for a reason, they give you and your friends room to find your "own" space. Thats a good thing about TA, you can meet some new people to go out partying with..if you're going alone in the first place. Personally the reason I go to any club or festaival, is to unwind with my friends, let off some steam, and see my favorite DJs perform live. I still get excited when I walk into any club and look up and see Sander or Ferry ETC. in the flesh up there and having a blast, it charges me. If theres some badass, gino, or any other "distraction", I simply dance my way to another spot on the floor..its simple..The club or "Scene" is what u make of it, if you concentrate too much on whats going on around you and not on the moment, the music, and your friends, you'll never have a good time anywhere regardless of the city.
Cheers

I don't think there is a better scene in North America than what we have in Toronto - in terms of diversity of events (amongst different genres) happening every weekend. That's my opinion from partying around a lot of places, so, don't go nuts on me.

I love mtl, in fact, I'll be going there next month, it's been too long.

Im from Toronto and unfortunately have to sooo agree with that.
3 or 30 times to Guv- doesnt matter- its always the scene

maybe they should have age limit- no entry after 40 or something like that- cuz it makes me sick to look at, dont feel like dancing when they land on u and push u

Toronto club scene is very strong on all levels.

ahaha not true, we're just not vocal about it, you don't see 38929 roll calls about a single event and even less 2302380 posts about it.

Moreover, even fewer people write reviews. Its not the same as you guys.

I rememeber seeing over 30 pages about a single event! 30 pages!!!! thats way overboard.... ehhehe

finally tranceaddict is not even 5% of Montreal's scene, there's more active forums elsewhere in French and people are very active over there.

oh one more thing...

why does it take a single visit for a TOTA to Montreal to say we have kick ass parties...

while after 3 and more visits of a MTLTA to toronto and still s/he isn't convinced about the hype in Toronto ??

".I don't care if theres a huge asian corner in the club then a gino corner on the other side, clubs are big places for a reason, they give you and your friends room to find your "own" space."

Everytime I've gone I don't end up having any space, I get pushed around, I get stepped on... that's not fun. I can go to any afterhours in Montreal and enjoy myself with my friends or by myself .

Toronto has nothing on Montreal as far as the quality of people and atmosphere. I must admit they get damn good bookings though. o>_

Maybe because the TOTA goes with an open-mind, whereas the MTLTA's all go with the pre-concieved notion that "MY city is the best"? One common thing in all you MTL'ers is your ego's, you people need to really get over yourselves.

Oh, and to anyone judging Toronto's scene just on the Guvernment...haha, get out more.

So you're saying events in Montreal are never rammed?

I'll agree with that.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Oct-19-2005 20:40:

its not the music..its the people...you dont need an open mind to notice people taking up prime real estate on the floor and NOT DANCING...that is a disgrace to good music.

I've been to numerous parties where people were just dancing.

That, coming from someone living in the city that is suposedly the center of the universe !

Let's not even try to go on the slippery road that would be comparing montreal to Toronto because you'd get your ass kicked in every way possible !

"
So you're saying events in Montreal are never rammed?"

Yes we do get quality bookings and some weekends we are rammed... but Guvernment/Kool Haus gets CRAZY CRAZY bookings...

" Maybe because the TOTA goes with an open-mind, whereas the MTLTA's all go with the pre-concieved notion that "MY city is the best"? One common thing in all you MTL'ers is your ego's, you people need to really get over yourselves."

I go with an open-mind, else I wouldn't have gone back to Guvernment after my first experience. I think Guvernment is a beautiful club, very commercial, crazy lightning, decent sound, but the fact people keep walking by me and literally SHOVING me is not fun... not nice at all. Add in the corners of chinatown falling all over the place and it's really not cool.

so we're all close minded with huge egos.

thanks man
but last I checked Toronto was still the center of the universe...

You're right - sorry for jumping on you. Gut reaction I guess.

I just can't stand when people say "toronto's scene sucks because it is all sketchy asians"

I like Montreal, but Toronto is my home, and I love all of the options there are here. I've found most of the events in Montreal that interest me to be within 2 or 3 clubs. Here...they are spread out everywhere, and that's a big reason why I like it. I dont have to go to guvernment to hear good music - I do, sometimes - but it's elsewhere too.

However, I've been pushed around, stepped on, even sexually assaulted at aria - but I don't go around saying the Montreal clubbing scene sucks because I had a bad experience one night. Put things in perspective, people.

Posted by malek on Oct-19-2005 20:51:

2 or 3 clubs?

does Carl Cox at 1234 (tonight)

or Richie Hawtin @ station c (weekend)

fit in that list?

you know as little about our scene as people here know about yours.

Yea, exactly...THAT coming from someone living in Toronto. No, it's not supposedly the "centre of the universe". I've never considered it to be, neither does anyone on TOTA, and frankly...I don't think I've ran into anyone in my 16 years of living here that thought so. Sure there's some people who think it's the best city in the world, but hey, they just need to get out more, and they're entitled to their opinion.

And I wouldn't even want to go compare the 2 cities, because in my honest opinion, I think both cities have something great to offer. Something unique. That's one common thing that I've noticed about Toronto residents; we can respect and recognize what MTL has to offer...
