baseball news..

hudson street wins al rookie of the year
ryan howard wins nl rookie of the year ..

pretty weird how howard won, and wasn't a regular starter until after the all-star break ..

and francoeur got third, and was the same thing ..

as for hudson street, he deserved it, because he was lights out everytime he got to the mound .. and the guy's only 22, so he's got a long way to go .

Manny Ramirez to mets still alive?

Saw this article on ben maller's sports site
The Mets not only have interest in trading for Manny Ramirez, they also believe that the Red Sox outfielder has interest in playing for them. Recent reports have suggested that Ramirez does not want to play in New York and prefers to play for Anaheim, Arizona or Cleveland. A baseball source, however, said yesterday that the Mets have received indication that reports of Ramirez not wanting to play too close to his hometown may have been a smokescreen aimed at diverting attention from the Mets pursuit. Ramirez does have veto rights over any deal, so his consent is key. Now, the Mets are believed to be ready to deal directly with the Sox. The centerpiece of the deal, coming from the Mets side, would be center fielder Mike Cameron and two of the following three prospects: outfielder Lastings Milledge and right-handers Aaron Heilman and Yusmeiro Petit.

i'm getting tired of baseball trying to spawn more baseball news during the offseason by re-creating the 'steriods scandal story' ...

drop it please ... .. let's talk about something else .. like how come the number of latin america talent coming to the majors is on the slight decline ??

Uhhh... the minor leagues are filled with hispanic prospects.

But, I would assume that part of it has to do with at least half of the hispanic ball players having no concept whatsoever of the "walk."

Well done to Carpenter for winning the NL Cy Young. His stuff during the summer was awesome and I totally agree with the decision. I thought Clemens would have been closer but there ya go!

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-11-2005 00:25:

Mets are trying to deal for Aubrey Huff and Baez,i get the Baez part..but Huff is a subpar defensive player who plays 3 positions,i hope they are acquiring him to send to the red sox for manny.Wonder if they would take zambrano back and give us Kazmir .

and for a laugh we have an article link from smoking gun on palmeiro and speed
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archiv...2palmeiro1.html

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-15-2005 04:32:

Looks like the Mets are about to overpay greatly for Billy wagner...whicjh i guess would mean the Baez/huff deal is dead...
in other news Matsui about to get a 4 year 50 mil. deal from Yanks and Nomar told by the Cubs to look for a differents fit.
Cubs and Nationals also rumored to be discussing a wilkerson for Corey patterson deal..i really hope the nationals won't pull this trade, wilkerson is going to be a stud

Posted by Mebot on Nov-15-2005 04:57:

That is, of course, if Brad Wilkerson can strengthen his hitting performance. He has the power and the ability, he just stikes out a lot. If he can focus on hitting the ball, he could be a pitcher's threat next season.

I hope the deal doesn't go through either, but that's because i enjoy seeing the new faces of the Nationals here.

And the fantasy god known as Albert Pujols has won the NL MVP.

congrats to the monster from St. Louis

Posted by Mebot on Nov-15-2005 19:16:

New tougher steroids policy enacted today. 50-game suspension for 1st positive test, 100-game suspension for 2nd test and lifetime ban for third positive test.

I dunno, i think it's a bit excessive. Congratulations to Pujols for winning the NL MVP

Posted by Acid Circus on Nov-15-2005 20:06:

About time Pujols got one, he is a living legend!

Posted by Azz3D on Nov-15-2005 20:45:

i agree with pujols being the NL MVP that was a no brainer
but Gay Rod in the AL? come on gimme a break

gagging in the clutch must have been a factor with the AL MVP race this year

wah wah wah...you just don't like because you're a dead sox fan. Who cares about the MVP anyway...I'm sure Arod would rather have Ortiz's WS ring. That's what matters.

that may be true but what did A Rod do in the post season when it really mattered?
NOTHING...2 hits, 0 RBI, a .133 average in 15 at bats

they better have a good reason (or a rule I do not know about) to voting him in such as not counting the post season stats...

/just sayin

A-Rod may not have done anything spectacular in the post-season but it was during regular season that clinched his win for the MVP, helping the Yankees move past the Red Sox and win the AL East division, securing their spot in the playoffs.

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-16-2005 20:44:

The voting takes place the day after the regular season ends. Playoffs have nothing to do with it.

And the MVP awards are not that bad. It's the Cy Youngs this year that are absolutely a joke. All of these awards, though, are stupid. And 90% of the vote comes from morons who think that wins are more important than any other stat for a pitcher.

Mike Cameron traded to the Padres for Xavier Nady.

Meh. Nady's okay. They may trade him though. Of course, this is all dependent on Cameron passing a physical... mainly, the eye exam.

Giving up a great glove for someone with a bit more pop in their bat,not a great trade but they have made worse

Actually, I'm starting to really like this trade. I have my doubts about whether or not he'll be traded. I hope not. He has a lot of power. Probably up their with the best in terms of "raw power." He destroys lefties. He's 28, as opposed to Cammy being 33. He has a ton of potential. He can spell Floyd against lefites. Or be used in a platoon with Jacobs at first base. If the Mets somehow get Jeff Kent for 2B, Nady could be used everyday in RF... Also, $7M for Cammy compared to <$1M for X.

I like this deal. But I will also be at Shea for the first game against the Padres to give Cameron a very warm welcome. Never got to after "The Collision."

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Nov-17-2005 00:16:

So i guess this means the Manny deal is effectively dead,Sox were making sure that Cameron was in any deal.I am hoping to make it up to Shea for opening day this year,Haven't been there since the dark days of Vince Coleman and Saberhagen and that guy who was an all star with the pirates and did nothing with the Mets except soak up payroll....Curse you Bobby Bonilla

Posted by Shamez214 on Nov-17-2005 01:45:

Yeah. I've been at the last two Opening Days. I try to make it for all big events. Sadly, I missed Piazza's last game. But, in '04, I did make it for Wright's first game.
