Just you wait until your traffic is throttled.

I get 0kbps on EVERYTHING of that nature.

carriers design their networks around traditional traffic patterns. The amount of overbooking most large carriers do for residential connections is staggering.... file sharing programs have turned this traffic model on it's ear and is a real problem for them....

There will always be a huge debate about weather ISPs have the right to filter content on their network. "My network, My Decision" seems to prevail. Is it wrong for say google to offer a special "AOL only" version of something? Hmmmmm.....

Should we re-engineer backbones to expect infinate traffic from any point to any other point at all times? Not practical, and if they did Ineternt connections would cost thousands of dollars a month.... if you only spend $40ish dollars a month, it's unrealistic to expect 3-8 megs all the time....

the bad part with this is that you will only recieve good speeds with other users who use bitcomet and have the encryption enabled.

azareus team is currently working on encryption for their btclient...

rogers is blocking everything torrent related, even private servers.

more info on this >>>>>>>

I use bitcomet, not sure if encryption is enabled or not though. Still shitty speeds though.

Posted by arek on Nov-04-2005 02:55:

same here, until i hit a user who uses bitcomet with encryption.

they spike up, if that user shuts their pc off, it drops down to nothing again.

here's where u will find the encryption, it's most likely on auto detect, best to switch it to always.

Posted by Blue. on Nov-04-2005 03:24:

Looks as though the only solution is to use Bit Comet or wait for more programs to allow encryption for minor speed increases.

Better than nothing.

So, Bit Comet is the way to go then???

Posted by chinaboy1021 on Nov-07-2005 01:36:

wow, i thought i was the only one with the problem. lately, my torrent speeds have been shit, not because there are less seeders, it just seems to hang. my normal speed is 350kb/s, now i get like 15-20, sometimes 0kb/s.

Bell is fucking slow as hell too. But I think it may be the modem...

Posted by Blue. on Nov-07-2005 05:05:

I'm at 100kb/s now but it's not going any faster

Try switching azureus to port 1720, the voip port. I've read of this working for people, and it seemed to make my upload speed a lot better and downloads better too. But haven't experimented with it enough to determine if it really works. But for a while my upload speed was 0 to a couple bytes per second, and when I changed ports they went back up to regular speeds. So it's worth a try.

Is anyone using a BT client at school or somewhere that provides high speed internet where you don't have access to the router?

My loft complex gives us access, but my torrent DLs are really slow, and I can only get it to work with Bitcomet with encryption enabled.

Tried this a few days ago after reading it on the DSLreports forums, no dice.
