My gf and I moved here a few months ago and we would be glad to point you guys in the right direction while you are here. I wouldn't recommend crescent st as it can be a bad mix of drunken freshmen and 40 year olds have their mid life crises dancing to bad rap from the early 90s. St laurent can be pretentious and expensive if you are going to any of the places near Sherbrooke and St Laurent like Globe, Med, Buonna Notte. They don't always play particularly good music. A little further up Saint Laurent you run into cheesey clubs that play a lot of hip hop too. For some reason, they have this obsession with the Gasolino song that played for 2 weeks in the states about 2 years ago and you never heard it again, but they still play it here. There is also this obsession with "Candy shop" by 50 cent, which again I don't know why they still play it.
I would recommend Central Station on Saturday night for a good mix of some hip hop and reggae but mostly house/dance. My gf and I are driving to Millenium on Saturday night which is in the northern part of the city but much larger than the clubs on St Laurent which are generally small. They play mainly house and this place has more eye candy than anywhere else I've been.
Its kind of like a mini Guvernment, and people get really drunk and silly there. Mostly francophone.

If you're interested in afterhours, there is a afterhours review thread in the Montreal section. Stereo and Aria attract headliners. Red-lite and Circus attract more local djs and attract a more "mainstream" crowd as some put it, but I like these places because if you hit them on the right night, you will here the dirtiest, dirtiest house you'll ever hear in your life. For example, Nicola Torriera at Circus last Saturday- holy shit.
I'll pm you with our ph number.

So? How'd it go? Full review!

My trip was awesome. Never enjoyed Montreal this much in a LONG time...one of the most romantic and sweet weekends EVAR!!!

Jenny and I went on walks, watched movies, went to restaurants, did some shopping...WOW!!! We tried out Java U on Friday night but it was dead (around 12:30) so we just stuck our heads in and left. Looked nice though.

A new fave restaurant to add to the list: "L'Academie" on St. Denis.

heheh java u is very calm on friday nights, but people come in and leave, constant rotation. Plus I believe its the kind of spot people go to before going to clubs, so it gets more action earlier at night.
