Drinkey whiskey straight, for example, is something you might find a population deems as non-metrosexual. It's impossibe to describe these things as a threshold, because there is no scale: it is merely a collection of traits and behaviors.

Keep in mind, I'm speaking with a population smaller than mankind as a whole. I think you would find it difficult to define exactly across mankind's spectrum.

wait a sec, if i poll a group in NYC, then i poll a group in salt lake city, might we not find a difference in thresholds?

I don't expect people to agree with me, just to listen and reflect upon the points I make as I do with theirs. Hell, I don't even mind being proven wrong, I just like to process. I've enjoyed our little quarels.

i agree

Of course you would have varying definitions of what is or is not metrosexual. The important thing, however, is to identify what traits in what combination or abundance would lead one to judge another to be a metrosexual. Once one determines this then one knows the threshold (threshold meaning minimum requirements).

i agree to an extent but at the same time if we go to bangalore india, there would be nowhere near the acceptance level as there would be in say Los Angeles.

Yes. Chances are you would, and I'm not arguing that. The fact that there are differences isn't important.

Let's say the population you poll is TA, as this thread attempted to do befoe it was hijacked. Many members noted that metreosexuality is an adaptation of traits and actions generally associated with homosexuality in order to pick up women. Now, if you go over to www.gay.com/forums and ask the same question, you'll probably get a much different answer. So, all we've proven thus far is that different populations will give different answers. However, don't you think that some traits listed by TA and GAY would still be similar? You would definitely lose a few in the shuffle, but others would remain, maybe shrinking the list to 60, 20 or even 2% similar traits.

If you ask enough people, you'll eventually run out of similar traits. But I already noted that would happen when I said it's impossible to define anything acrooss the human spectrum. Maybe a more appropriate way to phrase the OPs question would have been: "What does TA (or the corE) define as metrosexuality". But let's be serious, how many people feel the need to include such an oft implied part of a question?

Sorry for the poor typing, Im trying to stay on task and have this discussion at the same time

Clearly, a cultural norm can only apply to one culture and what is accepted in one culture is not necessarially going to fit with another, I don't think anyone would argue this point. Perhaps the idea of trying to gain a globally applicable diagnostic criteria for such a highly subjective term as Meterosexual is impractical. Moreover, it does not seem to be warrented since this practice seems to only be generic to economically advantaged urban based societies.

Did uglies create metrosexuality in order to improve their mating chances?

The end.

my boyfriend is a metrosexual, but only in the way he presents himself...as in, the way he dresses. he's very clean cut and organized and always nicely groomed...uses lotion and facewash, etc...

but as far as how he acts, he doesn't act all gay really. i mean, he's definitely got a sensitive side, which is awesome, but he's not like a whiney little picky bitch like most metros...i don't like metros who act like women and are very snobby and critical...basically like a fag. lol

one who takes care of himself -- pampers himself -- and is not ashamed of getting facials, buying grooming products and shopping. these young men hold the secrets to tomorrow's consumer trends. metro's unite!

it's a heterosexual man that has adopted many female habits, such as color coordination, cleanliness, and a general preoccupation with how one present's onself. this is largely a result of the entry of women into the workplace and higher education, greater economic parity amongst men and women, and marketing. it's not a gay thing, although there seems to a convergence of habits.

metro sexual is such a stupid term.
just another way to lable people by the way they dress...when will people realize that they're not metrosexual/emo/goth/or any other stupid lable, but simply just themeselves.

giving yourself a lable just means you're not satisfied with yourself enough, so you need to join a group that has lots of members so when people make fun of you, you can think to yourself "pff.. there's lots of people that do this..that guys just an ass.'

and i agree, but then again people purposefully put themselves into these groups and encourage the labelling...

Posted by Slylee on Nov-17-2005 23:14:

i'm most likely categorized as a typical thin, blonde south beach chick...i dress pretty trendy and hang out at all the hot spots with my oversized sunglasses and a mojito in my hand. but once you talk to me, you'll notice i'm pretty laid back and down-to-earth. but i'm fine with that stereotype, i wouldn't expect people to think anything less because let's face it, that's what i look like at first glance.

i hate when people have mohawks and chains hanging everywhere and then gripe about being labeled.

Posted by Floorfiller on Nov-17-2005 23:45:

yeah seriously...if you don't want to be labelled...don't have a stupid mohawk.

i like to dress nice and sophisticated sometimes, and if that makes me a metrosexual, then so be. my brother called me metrofuck all the time a year or so ago. now, he dresses like it too, and i call him metrosucker, because he sucked up.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you...

I guess I was just temporarily annoyed by the way us human beings tend to apply our warped versions of reality to our peers. And his comments just particularly got on my nerves, not because I'm a metrosexual or anything, but I just don't like negative connotations being put on things that don't really deserve them.

I'm sure he's a smart guy and he's probably not at all bad, so I should've kept my mouth shut instead of antagonizing him.

Anyway, apologies again. My comprehension meter must indeed be broken, since I apparently can't appreciate degrading both people and ideas that I don't even know or understand. Stupid me. It's a forum and I had nothing constructive to add, so I should've just kept my mouth shut.

heheheh
