No dude I'm not saying you dont belong there, its Kazell who doesnt belong there.

Kazell then Johan by itself would have been okay, or Kazell - Johan - Gil closing, or even Kazell - Gil - Johan...

But I understand that Kazell is a bigger DJ than you are though so he must be billed higher. But its just a dumb idea to start with. Kazell does not play trance, only very rarely, hes best playing his own sound, which does not in any way complement Johan or you. Heaven booking him makes no sense whatsoever unless its just a popularity thing because they think he'll bring more people.

I'm not saying you cant play prog, but Kazell is one of the best opening DJs in LA , to have someone open for him is just weird.

I'm sure everyone would be happy if clubs always put together well thought out line-ups that make sense and make the night even better.

I see your point Clovis. I don't think its a matter of whether he plays trance or not. Kazell has made a name for himself and is an extremely talented dj. Whatever Johan plays, I know he's going to have a great set to get people pumped up before. If he's been asked to open for Tiesto, i don't see why he can't open for Johan. He's played all over the world and has the ability to move the crowd regardless if its trance or not. He will have something up his sleeve. Btw, this is not my first time opening before Kazell.

Posted by philippe on Dec-02-2005 19:07:

Well, if Kazell doesn't spin trance we can always retreat to the patio, the entrance, or even the upstairs lounge during his set

Oh, wait! What am I saying? I won't even be at Arena for his set

lol fyi I fucking love Kazell. Hes openiong for Sander on nye and hes gonna rock it...he'll definatley kill Arena before Johan...

And +1 to philippe for being 'musically tolerant'

so now there are rules?????? well, I can see the point of having a flow through the night but as long as the dj itself has a good quality set, the only hiccup would be transitioning from one dj to the other. regardless of where the dj plays in a night is minimal if he/she just straight up sucks. I understand you dont want banging 140BPM for the first slot ever, but I KNOW Gil and Kazell are highly talented indivduals that will make the best of this line up. whether gil or kazell first, they both know what time they are playing.

so now what is the problem?????

Well cause I think DJs should be able to play what they want and not have to go by those rules...so Gil would be better going after Kazell or closing after Johan so he can play more bangin shit like in his last demo. I've seen him play prog and do great too...but it just doesnt make sense, because the styles going from Gil->Kazell->Johan will be all over the place.

I really dont give a shit since I'm not even going...but Kazell playing at a trance club in between two trance DJ's makes no sense at all. He'll probably feel obligated to play alot harder progressive than hes used to or even play trancier stuff...and hes at his best rockin people with acid and electro house...

I dont see why you're getting agressive when I'm just pointing out what would make more sense.

Posted by DJFaded on Dec-03-2005 00:15:

I'm not getting agressive but you are making it seem that a dj should only play 1 style. part of djing is being able to make the best of whatever situation is at hand. a guy like victor D, you can make him open, close or headline, he can do it all. so why can't other dj's do the same. victor plays straight deep progressive house to banging trance so why can't other do that too??

I dont see why you're getting defensive when I'm just pointing out what does make more sense.

Having only been introduced to Trance in late 2003, and not really getting into it, untill Early 04' I confess to being a total noob!!!

My knowlege base is very, very small...and living in the U.S. you don't see many trance listeners...but I am here to learn and enjoy!
I have already discovered so much in only a few months...this place is so fun.

So please excuse my ignorance! (But thanks for all the new tunes ) I know for sure this is the music I have always been searching for growing up but could never find.

I'm really looking forward to Kazell's set. I'm sure he's really going to get the night going and make a lot of fans who have never seen him play.

Posted by DaveT on Dec-07-2005 10:57:

Everytime I've heard Kazell it's been before a trance DJ and everytime he's bored me to death for that night. I like an opener to have a flow into the headliner and he just didn't seem to lead into a bangin' trance DJ too well (at least, when it comes to what I expect)....the trance dj headliner either had to start off slow for compared to his own style or stard off as normal and cause a kink in the flow for the night.

I think Kazell is a great DJ and on a night where I'm going out expecting his style generally throughout the night I'd love him... but what he brought on those nights just didn't do it for me...and it seemed like most of the crowd was just there bobbing waiting for the headliner to finally come on.

For the most part, openers for trance DJs in SF are always better than what I've experience in LA. A LOT. Not always, but for the most part.

Big problem is...a lot of the times the actual trance DJ requests and opener who plays much slower material....just so there's no worry about that opener possible playing a similar style and having a better set overall. I don't know which DJs do this, though.

Dave
