I see your point Clovis. I don't think its a matter of whether he plays trance or not. Kazell has made a name for himself and is an extremely talented dj. Whatever Johan plays, I know he's going to have a great set to get people pumped up before. If he's been asked to open for Tiesto, i don't see why he can't open for Johan. He's played all over the world and has the ability to move the crowd regardless if its trance or not. He will have something up his sleeve. Btw, this is not my first time opening before Kazell.
Well, if Kazell doesn't spin trance
we can always retreat to the patio, the entrance, or even the upstairs lounge during his set
Oh, wait! What am I saying? I won't even be at Arena for his set

so now there are rules?????? well, I can see the point of having a flow through the night but as long as the dj itself has a good quality set, the only hiccup would be transitioning from one dj to the other. regardless of where the dj plays in a night is minimal if he/she just straight up sucks. I understand you dont want banging 140BPM for the first slot ever, but I KNOW Gil and Kazell are highly talented indivduals that will make the best of this line up. whether gil or kazell first, they both know what time they are playing.
so now what is the problem?????

I'm not getting agressive but you are making it seem that a dj should only play 1 style. part of djing is being able to make the best of whatever situation is at hand. a guy like victor D, you can make him open, close or headline, he can do it all. so why can't other dj's do the same. victor plays straight deep progressive house to banging trance so why can't other do that too??
I dont see why you're getting defensive when I'm just pointing out what does make more sense.

My knowlege base is very, very small...and living in the U.S. you don't see many trance listeners...but I am here to learn and enjoy! I have already discovered so much in only a few months...this place is so fun. So please excuse my ignorance! (But thanks for all the new tunes ) I know for sure this is the music I have always been searching for growing up but could never find.-Clovis |

Everytime I've heard Kazell it's been before a trance DJ and everytime he's bored me to death for that night. I like an opener to have a flow into the headliner and he just didn't seem to lead into a bangin' trance DJ too well (at least, when it comes to what I expect)....the trance dj headliner either had to start off slow for compared to his own style or stard off as normal and cause a kink in the flow for the night.
I think Kazell is a great DJ and on a night where I'm going out expecting his style generally throughout the night I'd love him... but what he brought on those nights just didn't do it for me...and it seemed like most of the crowd was just there bobbing waiting for the headliner to finally come on.
For the most part, openers for trance DJs in SF are always better than what I've experience in LA. A LOT. Not always, but for the most part.
Big problem is...a lot of the times the actual trance DJ requests and opener who plays much slower material....just so there's no worry about that opener possible playing a similar style and having a better set overall. I don't know which DJs do this, though.
