| Originally posted by DannyO 23 myself, Nem if it makes you feel better, I know some DJs that will put you to shame age wise .Why is it you want to know DJs age?, it seems to me after seeing some of your posts, that you seem to think your getting too old for this or something, honestly, age shouldn't matter when DJing, there might not be many old DJs on TA, but there are alot of older DJs that spin regularly out in the world, I guess it starts hittin you as you get older and more mature, but still spinning to the 18-25 year old crowd (prolly) would make you feel old, but thats just the way things are, anyway, I'm interested in hearing your responce to this post. By the way, 34 isn't old. |

You're certainly not at all old, and if anything, your age is an asset, at least IMO. Your ability to share your experience with us has really helped me learn a lot since I started posting here... And there's definitely a pretty well respected house/trance DJ here in Wisco who still plays out quite a bit, and is easily in his mid to late 40's... I forget his name, but Myra (lucid) has said he's still out there and still sick as hell... |

Thanks DJ RJT.
Hey Danny O,
Nope, not really that worried about age, just wondering if my life has arrived at a point when I'm starting to run out of steam or I'm just in a slump at the moment.
I have worked my nuts off in this business and was lucky enough to say that there was a time I could actually live off it, i.e. the only thing I had to worry about was getting from Home to club at the weekends and that was the only time I needed to work.
Been to interesting places in the world just to play music to people who want to have a good time... how lucky can you get?
So many things have changed since I started 20 years ago it's freakin' unbelievable. CDs (which I like for anyone who wonders), Ableton (Which I dislike), mp3 (which aren't bad) and so on.
Someone said something to me after I had finished working last Saturday along the lines of, "why are English DJs so bad, when I was in Turkey the DJs were using laptops and stuff". This naturally rubbed me up the wrong way but I was polite about the whole thing.
I think the problem I have with Ableton is that it can take any fucking retard and turn him into me without effort (Okay so you can read that anyway you like he he). The problem with Ableton is it's too damn good.
To be honest, I'm on a bit of a downer at the moment as I have been booked 3 times now to go to the US to play but at the last moment it's all gone to shit largely due to circumstances beyond my control, but it does get you down.
Bottom line is no, I don't think I'm too old to DJ, it's not really until you get a few years (like about 10) behind you that you really understand how it all works and I'm still learning.
You are right about the crowd thing though, it doesn't really feel like I'm playing to my peers anymore. I still enjoy it though.
Was mostly curious about the ages of people as sometimes you can see by how people write that it's a younger mind behind it and just wanted to get an idea of the round about age of people on here.
It's actually cool to see so many younger people start on the same journey I did and sometimes shocking to see the information that's handed out from one to another but that's a whole other story.
Anyway, apologies for the long and dreary post
just had to vent.
Feel better now so will go and spin for a bit.
Cheers
Nem
Looks like the bell curve is rather evident in this poll.
