Which pisses me off.... I have 2 dead iPods. And with all the damn cash you drop for one you'd think they'd package it with a case. But No dice. Instead they charge another $50 for one. Which basically means I put my iPod in my pocket without a case and it get beaten to shit. I just hope Apple will honour their warranty on it.

I don't think I'll buy an iPod for my next MP3 player simply because of those factors. I don't want that shit. Portable video is completely and utterly useless to me.

Amen to that. 4th gen iPods are the shit. They should have continued selling those at a lower price.

I can play MP3s on my Treo... coincidentally, it also makes phone calls, takes pictures and videos, does scheduling, e-mail, web, games, and wireless file transfers & hot syncs. And it cost me roughly the same as those crummy iPods.

So no, I don't really wish I had an iPod. But thanks for comin' out!

You plug in whatever headphones you want. You can even use wireless bluetooth headphones! Personally though, I'd prefer to use headphones that don't suck (which automatically excludes those "lovely" white ones).

As for the other questions: yes, yes, and yes. That's what the SD slot is for.

Within the first year it's 1-800-MY-APPLE. Keep any receipts of shipping charges you may incur as the place of purchase will usually reimburse that cost for you. After that you need an extended warranty from your place of purchase. Otherwise yeah, your iPod just became a coaster.

Pro tip: If you buy a new iPod, get a bigass Applecare warranty, or get it from Futureshop (buy from Laura!) and get that no questions asked exchange bullshit they do.

ALWAYS BUY THE LONGEST EXTENDED WARRANTY YOU CAN WITH IPODS.

It's 80 bucks for 4 years on a 379.99 30G iPod Video.

It will break and start to act screwy, guaranteed. Usually after the first 2 years. Without that warranty you're screwed.

It blows my mind how many people bitch at me when I tell them there's nothing I can do once it's past the year and they have no warranty, but who I'm sure were the ones bitching at me about how expensive the option was in the first place.

Ya, 80 bucks 2 years ago and you'd have a brand new one right now asshole.

Maybe i'm blind, but I can only seem to find the 2 year AppleCare plan ($59.00).

http://www.apple.com/ca/support/pro...lecareipod.html

Where is the 4 year plan offered? Or is that from a third party?

Ah cheers!

I ordered directly from Apple (my company has a partnership with them, so we get some discounts on their stuff). I opted to not purchase an AppleCare plan as it only extends the warranty to two years, where my Visa doubles the original manufacturer's warranty up to a year for free! (1 year turns into 2, 2 years turns into 3, etc, etc).

So.. I'm covered for 2 years, and if it breaks after that then I suppose its an excuse to get another. I'm not too too worried; my 20G "Winpod" I got in early 2002 is still chugging along... My new iPod came in the mail today, so im giving the old one to my sister.
