you got to be kidding.. I bent over to get prices low from tickets (starterd at 20 bucks) to drink specials all night on a night that traditionally rapes customers on prices.. and you think that event was what? maaaaaaaaaaan.

The entire city at clubs/hotels/events average ticket price was around 50 to 75 bucks (some up to 250) and that was for a night with local djs playing commercial music and hip hop and usual crap like that.
At this event you had 4 amazing internationally recognized legends as headliners..extremely talented locals backing it up.. 4 rooms..
and if you didnt notice...$3 dollar drinks all night.. champagne toast at midnight complimentary.

all for 20 to 30 bucks on a new years eve??

gotta agree with you sean.

I got invited to a party @ Opus and they were chargin $100 @ door.
Every other party I heard of was roughly $50 minimum.

I guess it just depended on what you were expecting. I went with some friends primarily to listen to music. The music was great. Therefore, it was worth the money paid. If you came expecting the biggest party of the year, I guess I could see where you might have been disappointed, just because it wasn't packed wall-to-wall for the whole night, with people going crazy, but even then...

I had a great time, even as late as I wound up getting there, especially since I'd never seen Green Velvet before (only heard his productions), and hadn't heard any live sets or had any idea what the hell he was going to play, and turned out to be right up my alley (Robophobia ftw!), and Porter was, as expected, excellent.

I'd definitely do it again. Bring 'em back!

Sean definitely makes a good point. The prices weren't much better up in Austin from what I was hearing. The event I was playing at was $25 and had no headliners..and pretty steep drink prices.

Shake them haters off Sean, I hope everything went well with the event.

Sorry! didn't want to make it seem to be a hater , so just wanted to clarify where my frustration came from.
my friend was actually more disappointed than me, so it probably just rubbed off on me.
i guess it just seemed expensive because i'm just a college student with no job, and all i've got is money that i've been saving up, so dropping 40 bucks is kind of a big deal. but hearing the stuff that's a lot more makes me realize that yea this was a cheap night thank goodness.

i think the biggest frustration i guess is rooted in the fact that there's not enough people out there (in this city) who enjoy this music. and i know how much of a difference the crowd at a place makes, so it just kinda kills the mood. (one example; i went to sandra collins last year, and even though the music was fantastic, it was just kinda empty). i actually stayed until the very very end of this night, even when there was only 10 of us.

and even though it might not ever happen in houston, i guess i'm always looking for another delta heavy kind of concert, or a sasha and digweed in buenos aires kinda thing.

i guess if that's what i'm looking for, i might be eternally disappointed if i stay here....

and i definitely appreciate the fact that at least there's someone out there who organizes these events. the past year has been fucking amazing, i think, and i've been able to go to most of the events, so i was quite pleased.

anyways, peace out, and honestly can't wait for the next event that'll be in houston.

hey man,
no hate felt, as i know you and screen are AVID supporters of events and your input is very welcomed as you guys definitely put in time on the dancefloors. and as far afrustrating to see smaller then desired crowds, i FEEL ya deeply on that. hehe. but its our city, and i love it and we can make it work the way we want. So support and it will be all good.

What i was meaning in my reply, was that i too get frustrated when i try hard to keep things tight, not grossly overcharge, and try to consider how much people have to pay to enjoy these djs brought in to Houston. I too used to go to tons of shows and spent alot of money on BS events, which really got meinto throwingthem myself.

paying twice as much for some events i do now and sometimes the djs woudlnt even be there. Ahh yes those days... fun but really, that shit sucked. So i did something about it. Hope its been good for you. I've really enjoyed getting to know most of you, this community here really is one of the best. now if i could jsut get you all to love House too we would be really groovin.
also, Things like Delta heavy will return i am sure and be in houston as well.... (if you thought 40 bucks was alot, try waiting to buy that ticket, espeially in BA or something )

so stay supporting, our community, though not 10s of thousands, its ours.. and a city that has alot to offer. I am scaling down the venue sizes, to make it more comfy for the crowd that comes out.
tuning it in yuo might say.

keep feed back coming, honest and good liek the stuff here is what makes me do things better each time.

Respect!

sean

ps

Screen has bad breath and wears pink socks.

oh yea, and although this might not be very likely of a request, anybody got any tracklists for green velvet's and porter's sets?
there's this one song with female vocals that was totally sick...

anyways, probably one of the most annoying things for me: going to events, hearing a tightass song, and not having any clue what it is, and no way to find it...
