Its occurring in ONE suburb in a city of 4 million people (?). You can easily go to Sydney, see everything you'd ever want to see and you'd never even have to go near those redneck idiots down there. Plus it will have died down by NYE. I have no doubts whatsoever you will be able to visit and not have any problems.

very true, Sydney is an extremely dangerous city, we have war correspondants filming these gang wars, you would be safer in Sudan, Kashmir, or Somalia
