Firstly this is not against Lister because the couples of times I've heard I thought he was great. But as one of the uneducated, and let's face it we are a huge majority, mixing is about the last thing on our list. Track selection and just plain passion for the music are much furthur up there. Mixing is important to your fellow Djs, but we just want to have fun.

this is a very valid point, nothing to do with lister, i wasn't even there and its safe to say he mixes better than me but a good mix into an unknown song (insert uneducated crowd here) is never going to have a better impact than a crap mix into a well known song

Its like cake, the mixing is just the icing on the cake in some cases

.....i think that makes sense

Definatly dude

All you have to do is have fun. None of this serious shit everyone takes to heart, fun is all you need.

sorry mate but i disagree. we were at altitude for recovery on sunday morning and some obscure dj (j/k ) dropped laurent garnier - man with the red face (jan driver rmx) and it went fucking right off.

now theres only about 5 other ppl there who actually know what the track was. (and we all interestingly started going out in 2000-ish which was when that track was released.

good music is just good music. it will went off ************ of it was released on transmat or electronic elements that pure and simple. none of those recycled bleeps and squeak bullshit can do any better (even if i can be a sucker to that too, sometimes )

Posted by Aesthetic on Dec-12-2005 03:45:

let me just say.. tune.

lol i'm not obscure, just obtuse.

I've never heard Lister play, so I'm not going to comment on any aspect of his sets. Generally speaking, though, I'd have to say that any excess technical ability (beyond beatmaching, gain structuring, and phrasing so that your 16/32/64/128 etc line up) is lost on 90% of the population of 90% of dance floors 90% of the time. Heck you could probably train a monkey to beatmatch - and if phase-perfect beatmatching really made a difference on the dancefloor, we'd see a lot more of it out there (Ableton, Traktor, BPM counters, etc), and we'd see those who are using it gaining, rather than losing popularity. (Alex, look at your ticket sales mate, we're not being entertained like we used to!) Reading people, and giving them what they want in a manner that they don't predict, is a far more challenging exercise than learning the technical side of things - and that's exactly what those at the top of this heap we call DJing do. Using technical skills to enhance the experience and control energy flow, great. Expecting to fill and/or keep a dancefloor with a technically perfect six-minute mix between two tracks that aren't perfect for that exact moment on that exact dance floor, in the minds of the people who are right in front of you listening to it, not so great. A bomb is only of any value when it hits its target, right?

People don't dance to mixes, they dance to tunes. Raise your hand if you already knew that.

on a footnote i'd say our dear alex coe is now a reformed trashbag (not yet retired, thank fuck (goodbye danny rampling )) so that could be factored in to the whole ticket sales/entertainment value scheme of things)

works like a charm hey

it was called the silly season for a damn good reason.

Posted by SteveStrangis on Dec-12-2005 07:02:

Sorry didnt make it guys, heard it was a good night.
Lister is one of the most talented up & comers around, i guess this is all a learning curve - maybe Delieverence was not the right gig for him or maybe he would be better suited to an ealier set time?
Also heard DjB played a wicked set...
nice work, il def be there at the next one.

Posted by d(-j-)b DJB on Dec-12-2005 08:24:

As you all may have heard, altitude has adopted "House" music, and it is now about to take over Friday nights also.

Next deliverance (FRIDAY THE 13th JANURARY) will be the last one...but never fear, new venues are in the works.

Next month will feat the deliverance master sound blasters.

Friday night was the result of 2 most important things: Sasha, and Kryal castle. Most of our mailing list i know for a fact, were at kryal or saving themselves for Sasha.
The numbers lacked, but still the night had some great feel to it.

BIG UPS to BEN for bringing in all those chaps to really fill the place up again.
Its hard to run a Trance night when the club is looking for a more corperate/after work drinks scene atm. But Ben cetainly helped the cause. thanks buddy
Everyone who came would agreed the night was great fun.

Lister's tunes were/are awsome, the whole night didnt really work in his favour tho, no big one. I dont think he's fussed and either am I.
Thanks to everyone who also hung around thru me and then albs.

Lets make what is pretty much certain to be the last regular trance night @ altitude next month a fucking big one.
Its not about clashing of nights, its about supporting the sound that bought us together in the first place, so get down, get rowdy and lets breathe some life back into the scene. I mean fuck, You know somethings not right when Altitude turns house across the board..

fuckin shame.

lets get chopped and rock on the 13th.

Posted by kelsta on Dec-12-2005 09:01:

^ major shame altitude are heading down that path... it's almost been like a 2nd home for so many trancey weekends
Not sure how having more handbag will turn out for them but I guess they are just trying to run a business.

Since when?

Posted by Nyquist_Theorem on Dec-12-2005 14:12:

Sorry to hear Deliverance is leaving us. I've had some great times both behind the decks and on the dance floor at your nights, Brendan, as have many here. Hopefully whatever new night and DJs the Altitude crew bring in stick with stuff that's less mainstream than the freakshow across the road - and hopefully the non-trance friday nights are able to pick their numbers up and demonstrate that a sound need not be entirely mainstream radioplay stuff in order to be commercially viable.

I think it's just that tune that has a crazy effect on people. Especially the fist time they here it.
*Thinks back to Sydney TT recovery when Scott Bateman dropped it and watched the room light up!*
