I find it quite funny that ppl think banning things will stop use of something undesireable....

Originally posted by Cosmic Fur Prohibition was a little different because they made something that was legal before illegal, as a result of the high society complaining. Last time I checked, E was always illegal (well, except for the brief period of time when it was first invented), and its use is looked down upon by the general populationa as well as the "snobbish elites" (although those people snort coke by the kilos). Unless you're referring to Tiesto, in which case I say, he may be a jukebox, but calling him a "thing" is going a little far.
My favorite album of all time promotes drugs
Paul van Dyk - Out There And Back
Vega=Name of The Guy who sells drugs
Pikes=Name of the Drug
Another Way=Different Ways of taking the drug
Travelling=Acid Trip?
Avenue=Place Where You Take Drugs with Other People
Tell me Why (The Riddle)=Thinking about what would happen if u didnttake teh drugs? (Wonder if I could open my heart again)
Together We Will Conquer=Taking the drug with a loved one
Face 2 Face=the rain stops and sun comes out
The Love From Above=Buying More Drugs
Columbia=I dont think i have to explain that one
Out There And Back=Taking the last drug
We Are Alive=You And Your Loved one are Clean and Alive later on.

So i guess every superstar dj promotes drugs then, including the producer of that track? Once again you go to the obvious target. You also know this is dance music were talking about right? Of course people do drugs. |
ah...Beatles anyone?

Most of you guys just missed the entire point of this whole thread.

Originally posted by shanny I don't think Pett was trying to make Tiesto seem bad, his point is that it is wrong to start censoring people or possibly not let them into Canada, ala what is happening with Fifty Cent right now. I feel the same way, it is wrong to start stopping people from entering the country because of what they say in their music, whether it be hip hop or edm. It sets a dangerous precident.

Originally posted by DigiNut Not *entirely* true actually... I see your point - however, the period between invention and criminalization was anything but brief. It's just that alcohol has been ingrained into society since the beginning of time, where MDMA only had something like 10 or 15 years I think... "brief" by comparison but by no means insignificant. I'm not one to support drug use either; I'm actually rather disgusted by the way so many people deny their dependence on ecstasy and actually seem to take pride in their habit. The fact remains, though, that the "war on drugs" has brainwashed a lot of people but is still a load of crap, and criminalization really does not stop drug use. All it does is (a) create a black market that enables criminals to profit off the drugs and (b) cost enormous amounts of taxpayer money paying for police to enforce the laws and prisons to hold the ones that are caught. It's a colossal waste of resources to "protect people from themselves", which as we all know is just an excuse to curtail people's rights and freedoms. And yes, I realize that this doesn't have to do with the original topic, but so what, it went off-topic.

I remember reading that stuff about MDMA being used as a psychology drug at first a long time ago, I just didn't want to dig the info back up all over again.

Originally posted by cyper Well I finally agree with you. But if you dislike drug users, then you better dislike smokers & alcohol drinkers as well (since both are as addictive and dangers as most regular drugs). It has just become more accepted(and legal) in our culture to smoke and drink. But its still the same principle.

Originally posted by Skipper 1. In what track does Tiesto promote drug use? 2. Many tracks that DO reference drug use are produced by producers, in studios - and never performed live. The only one I can think where the person who created a track that referenced drug use explictly and has performed it live is Green Velvet.
