Well, this thread has certainly sparked some attention, but I think it would be beneficial for all of us if I brought this to light:

For the past 8 months, we have had a webste, with the same function, live on the internet. It has garnered over 120 000 hits since it opened last may, and the hits are rising. Below is a short description of what we have implemented, and what we plan to add in the next 2 months.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, here are the current functionalities that tracklists.ca offers:

* Monitoring of ETN and 2hp.ca audio streams. Currently using those two to showcase our live tracklist linking ability. When a show is live on the web, our system attempts to track down the corresponding tracklist within our database. If it does, it will display it for you. This is great when you want to know what song is currently being streamed.

* 3000 Tracklists in the database. Over 100 DJs, 22000 unique tracks and 10000 artists. Now, the data is not pure yet, we have some duplicates and it will be cleaned in due time.

* Ability to search by Artist name, Venue Name and Individual Tracks. This allows incredible flexibility, allowing us to generate cool statistics:
o Which tracks are played how often.
o Which tracks precede and follow certain tracks....
o What Track a DJ has played the most...
o Statistics possibilities are endless

* Ability to upload a tracklist. The tracklist is then in waiting for approval status, at which time a moderator can approve it, or reject it with comments, which you will receive.

* Ability to Register
* Ability to modify profile
* Ability to refer friends
* Ability to Reset password
* Ability to Email Webmaster
* Ability to Email Site Support
* Ability to view Source for Tracklists

In the near future, I am completing the following additions:

* Ability to Edit your own Tracklist, and submit changes for other tracklists.
* Ability to select which stream you want monitored
* Front End to tracklists.ca Winamp Radio Stream

----------------------------------------------------------

And that is what we have. I want to know what people think. My site and tnt_'s site are so similar in purpose, that there must be something we can do together. Looking forward to suggestions.

It sounds like you've got a good thing going, I'm just totally sold on the utilization of the wikipedia-type format so people can basically edit on the fly without some sort of approval necessary.

Posted by alefort on Dec-14-2005 02:13:

To each his own I suppose, but I strongly believe that there should be moderation, I definitely don't want to be the owner of a site that could potentially have harmful or racist comments within a tracklist.

Posted by UWM on Dec-14-2005 02:19:

I suppose I didn't look at it from that perspective. That makes sense. How active are your moderators though? I surely hope it's not like getting a release up on discogs

Posted by alefort on Dec-14-2005 02:22:

LOL, discogs certainly isn't the fastest around.

As for moderators, there are merely a few, and as it stands, I am refining the system, so there is still work to be done. The current tracklists were mostly added by mass import of text files we generated manually, from sources like tranceaddict.com

I wasn't planning on showing the new version till january, so a few things still need to be fine tuned / done. But you can add tracklists, and moderators check daily. You can also play around with searches, we still haven't really got much feedback from users.

I love this idea! Gonna support it and put some tracklists up.

Nice Idea. I am in.

how do we add an artist to the artist page?

my buddy made it, its pretty awesome,different format than yours but its already got a shitload of content/tracklists. gonna start streaming sets and live sets off it soon...kinda like etn.com but different styles i think.

I wasnt aware of this website and tracklists.org was definitely not made to compete with this. In general I prefer the free-form editing allowed by wiki.

easiest way is by visiting a URL like this:

http://www.tracklists.org/index.php/My Artist

then just click Edit and you're done. In order for the newly created artist page to be linked to the Artists category page include [[Category:Artists]] in the page's text and the rest is handled automatically.

that's so awesome...

another question for you...

so a lot of times you'll have a set that is by two dj's... i.e. sasha & digweed...or sasha and zabiela...

how would you like that taken care of? hehe

floorfiller for tracklists.org mod!!

(and up da p00per.)

EDIT: whatever happened to anuga's cuesheet site? good idea, but didn't get anywhere. guess www.cuesheet.info is still alright, though requires some maintenance (updates).

Posted by Ted Promo on Dec-14-2005 11:50:

Pretty kick ass idea. Go nab some of the lists of the popular dj threads in the tracklisting section.

yea its a good idea.. but the database in tracklists.ca has some pretty cool features, can search by dj, song, venue, date etc..hopefully urs doesn't get too messy without someone to moderate it. its easy now but once it really gets goin it might be trouble?

Posted by Cloud on Dec-18-2005 22:04:

someone has to add all the prydz tracklists.
I am afraid to use this shit l0l.

Nice idea tho

Posted by defusion on Dec-18-2005 22:53:

Cool idea.

As you can see from my sig i'm working on a Tiesto equivalent with a bunch of other people. With one main difference that its just over his career - and not his livesets. Just any event he ever played.

If you need someone to regularly spring clean the Tiesto section - i can gladly be of help.

Doing the whole of the scene dance-paradise style is pretty daunting IMO.

Good luck with it.

Then you're going to include stuff from his hardcore/gabber days, right?

Posted by Ek0nomik on Dec-18-2005 23:21:

Thanks for teh site. Will definetly help out when I have time.

Posted by Nsonic on Dec-19-2005 01:04:

I'm working on adding the Sensation White/Black 05 tracklists...
any Events sub category?
(and could someone check the tracklists ^_^)

EDIT> an events subcat would help so i dont have to type out the location of an event or the date, and extra info could be given
Could we make an events category?

EDIT2> is there a format? right now im just doing (for sensation05 tracklists)

@

(Yves Deruyter @ sensation black 2005)

EDIT3> this thread needs sticky
and, what to do about genres?
sub-genres of trance count as seperate categories?

EDIT4> is this ok? http://www.tracklists.org/index.php/Sensation_Black_2005

Posted by halexander837 on Dec-19-2005 04:34:

Well I see that's still under construction

As much info as we can.

We have party bookings for him in 1993 and 1994... but no idea of the playlists.
