I think the reason they started selling them as WAVs is because when you burn an MP3 set into an audio cd, there's that huge gap between songs. From what I understand, it's because mp3 cuts out the info necessary for this where-as a wav leaves it in. Audio-wise, I doubt I'd see enough of a difference to pay an extra dollar for the wav, but if you wanted to burn it as a cd, get the wavs, since they reduce the gap to almost nothing. It's still there, but unless you're really paying attention, you won't here it.

A lot of studies about mp3 compression have said that 128kbps is the quality of a cd audio to the human ear. I always felt this was stupid to say because you can see a huge difference in any shitty speakers between 128 and 192. Now...192 is a reasonable bitrate for any " normal " listening such as internet radios etc. 320kbps is good for your personal collection of mp3 that you hear on your car stereo, home sound system and such. WAV is well the best since its not been compressed but i am 100% sure most people wont even see a difference between 320kbps and WAV files. First, because as some other ta said, it's only the high end..and second, most people are deaf in that part..like 5-10% (which is normal)...so..my guess is if you are a dj, get the wav for the club soundsystem (you will never have a sound system like that at home) or if you have a $20 000 home system which I doubt a lot of people have here...

No, the reason they started selling WAVs was because people wanted lossless audio tracks. The gaps at the beginning and end of an mp3 don't matter unless you have an album with continuous tracks. I believe they do sell some mix albums as a single mp3, but you are on your own when it comes to making a cue file.

WEll I can definitely tell the difference between a wav and a 320kbps, especially with my headphones on - wav files just sound better - clearer definitely.
The song in my sig, I had it in wav file, before i converted it to mp3 320, and i could definitely tell the difference between them.

yah right....

Best thing to do, is to get a friend/girlfriend/parent/sibling to help you out and really see if you can tell.

Have a sheet or something you can write on and make out a table.

Then slap on your headphones etc, and have a listen to the tracks. However instead of consciously knowing that you're listening to the wav track, get your friend to click on the files for you and just listen.

Then mark off which one you thought was playing each time and see how you did.

Being able to hear the difference often has a lot to do with 'knowing' that a certain file is being played eg. Mp3 or WAV.

Try it.. See if your partner/friend can fool you.
