Lot of good torture would do me in that situation. If i was desperate enough to sink so low, the guy would have probably noticed, and give me wrong info on porpuse, so im dead either way. There is no guarantee that the information gathered under torture is accurate, the guy could have told me a way to get save my ass or he could have sent me into an ambush. I know i would do that if i was in an him or me scenario and i was staring down the wrong end of a gun. If i knew i was dead (or at lest in for some serious pain) eitherway, i would try to make sure that the other guy was just as bad off as me.

Ah most likely, but not 100% right. There is always the chance that some, or many of the prisoners will be innocent, and even if we say for the sake of the argument that torturing "bad people" is ok, eventualy an innocent guy will end up in some serious pain and then everything goes bad again.

And what if the cats were bad cats (you know the type, tiping over thrash cans, singin on the fence at night, sharpening claws on your favorite jeans on on your face), do they deserve to be tortured now or is it still wrong (even though the things described are really the cats primal nature)

And no, there is no guarantee that torture will always work. Many times througout history people have gone to their deaths with their secrets never revealed while being tortured...but I guess you were never going to get any info out of them no matter what interrogation methods were used, correct?

But it seems to me, like it or not, torture, pain and threat of death has made more than one prisoner talk when the chips were down..........it's just the ugly realities of war.

(BTW: I have a cat...I have never had to torture her TOO much to keep her in line, lol )

I like to throw rocks at cats myself, not that im really evil or anything im just terribly allergic to them. I had a nasty reaction once when a friends cat jumped on me, i almost suffocated so im not taking any chances anymore

Correct, so its usseles to torture them. And even if you get info you cant be sure it wont harm you more then help you, the prisoner might have said something just so he could get a break, or he could have give the wrong info on porpuse.

Thats true, however some thing shouldnt be allowed even in war, and in fact they are not. If everything was allowed nobody would ever be prosecuted for war crimes

Last time I checked, as donnybrasco said, this has happened in every single war. In fact it's been happening for centuries in pretty much any conflict, even as far back as battle of Poiters in the Tours wars or the sea battle of Salamis over 2 thousand years ago where survivors where beaten with sticks or harpooned and some were taken back Greece to take part in tortures to find out Xerxes true strengths.

So, now is this a new occurance? no00o0o. Is this a big deal? Nope. You're fighting an enemy that will not just plain hand over info to you. And last time I checked the military wasn't rounding up muslims by the dozens and sending them off to be tortured for the fun of it, while they do that to contracters who are there to help them and burn their bodies and let them hang in public view. We "torture", rather interrogate the enemy while they inflict excruciating pain and suffer innocent people. Wow, yeah America sure is the bad one here. And, as I've said earlier, if it's coming from Europe it sure as hell must be accurate and true .

Ah my bad, I thought that we are a bit better than the people from 2000 years ago, but i guess not that much, but hey if they did it in the past there is nothing wrong in doing it now right. First off, your sarcasm is rather weak especially when you are talking about a civilization that contributed one of the pillars of our modern Western world. They were definatly by no means some barbarians that your post makes them out to be. And second, human nature doesn't really change much, even in the course of 2000 years. And people were tortured in wars even only a few decades ago. What? You're going to claim that we've come pretty far in the last few years as humanity, too? Sorry, dude. Not quiet there...yet.

^^^Yes, very much agree. Human beings haven't changed hardly at all since the advent of homosapian dominance. I'm guessing the next big change in human behavior will coincide with the next big change in our species...perhaps this is where genetic-engineering could make a difference? If we're not to change in this way, then we'd better get ready for an indefinate period of the same-ole business as usual.

You see, the main difference between you and I is that I base the majority of my posts on information in which I've done (at the very least) a good bit of due diligence. Yes, thank you for gracing us with your well informed opinion. I better stop trying to further educate myself now. I really do strive to be as intellectually devoid as you, but I do have such a hard time not wanting to learn new things. It's such a tragedy, I can't bear it any longer.

On a more serious note, though, I don't think that I know many people who DON'T surf the web as a means of escape from work related boredom. Is that really so odd? I don't think so.
