ftw
Interesting topic. I never wore those ear plugs until very recently because the music was extremely loud (more than 130dBA). They even warned at the entrance about the loud music and suggested to get one-time earplugs at no cost at the wardrobe counter. Finally I decided to use them but - it did not help.
Earplugs help a lot against too loud higher frequencies but they do not help at all against very low frequencies. I got a huge headache after some time from my vibrating head and brain...
The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club.
Firstly, extended exposure to sound over 85 dba can cause permanent damage.
Any decent club with be 90dba+
I got these 27dba reducing earplugs for 5

I always carry a pair of ER-20's with me. They do look a bit shit, but I favour my hearing over what a bunch of gimps in a club that I will never see again think of me.

is it just me, or does anyone find that in some clubs (especially some of the RnB ones i've been in), the music is so god damned loud, that u can't even make out anythin of the music in the mids? Vocals are totally incomprehensible, because they're so god damned loud?
i'm getting custom earplugs

Earplugs are essential for me. I will need my hearing for my career and Ill be damned if I lose my job cause I cant hear good enough.
ALWAYS.
I always bring earplugs. There are some occasions where I wont use them, but more often than not I'll use 'em. They're bright green, and I got them for free during a school science project, but they work incredibly well, reducing the dB level by approximately 20-25dB.
Even if you don't think it's "cool" to wear earplugs simply because most people there aren't wearing them, do it. It's your hearing. If you're like me and are always up towards the front with a short distance between you and a stack of speakers, wear them.

Been wearing some at the clubs since the OLD SPACE 2001 or so.
You can buy a pack of 14 pairs of earplugs at Walgreens by the Medicne/prescription counter. The ones I get are either blue or purple (33db's). They go for about 3-5 bucks or you can get custom plugs like Kelly says i thin go for about 100 bucks. Not sure how many db it protects against.
It better to leave the club with hearing than leaving the club with ringing.

The issue here is a poorly tuned system or bad room acoustics, two very important things which most clubs usually don't spend too much time and money working on. Add to that the fact that club systems tend to be seldom maintained. |
I use them. There will always be the usual idiot who will come up to you and put a face of WTF .. but other then that, atleast here in Miami, Earplugs are very common, especially if you are a regular clubber, people gotta learn to take care of their hearings.
