I too will be going to see Talla 2xlc but if Danny is spinning for 12 hours I might swing by after Talla is done.

Posted by fury on Jan-08-2006 03:23:

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a bad idea, although I'll probably be too tired to go after Talla's set. God, I feel old.

Posted by DaveT on Jan-08-2006 05:22:

If I go see Danny it won't be until wellll into the night, probably 2am or 3am since he usually takes a few hours to really get going...so I won't even decide if I'll be going until near then..if I'm awake and/or not dead tired.

BTW, another track I wanted to bring up that we heard last night. Now, I don't know if it was a DUB remix of Gabriel & Dresden - Tracking Treasure Down or what....but Digweed played a track with just DEEP, POWERFULL Bass full of layers that well...with the same bassline (if you can call it that, since the whole track was a bunch o' bass!), no vocals, that sounded a whole helluva lot like Tracking Treasure Down. So much, that without even saying what I thought it was, Rich (lex400sc) thought it could possibly be the same track as I did. I really wish I knew the name of the track or what remix it was (if it was one). It was awesome.

I'd also like to know the name of the amazing track he played right after he played the massive remix of Mode Hookers - Breathe (the 2nd time he played Breathe)...had some ambient female voice in it. It was awesome!!

Sorry but I cant see Digweed ever playing anything having anything to do with Tracking Treasure Down. Baring some REALLY l337 remix.

Posted by DaveT on Jan-08-2006 11:43:

Well, it sounded so much like it I was waiting for some melodies and vocals or something else from the track to kick in...It's not unusual to hear completely different tracks sound an aweful lot the same .

For example, a part of Mode Hookers - Breathe and M.I.K.E.'s mislabelled track on G&D's Bloom mix CD, real name M.I.K.E. pres. Fascinated - Totally Fascinated (M.I.K.E.'s Fascinated Vocal Mix) ,sound a whole like Oliver Lieb - Subsonik (Filterheads Remix).

In fact, to hear how similar they are all...here are a few samples, each 30-60 secs. Obviously the speeds will be different, but unless you are tone deaf, you will hear the similarities.

Mode Hookers - Breathe
M.I.K.E. pres. Fascinated - Totally Fascinated (M.I.K.E.'s Fascinated Vocal Mix) (MISLABELLED on G&D's Bloom Mix Album as Push - Electric Eclipse)

And here's the first track that I know of that has an awfully similar sound to it...

Oliver Lieb - Subsonik (Filterheads Remix) - An awesome tune. :-p

ruby skye is 1337!

no, but it did sound like a dub club mix of tracking treasure down--at least the intro beat. you would have shit yourself hearing diggers lay it into his set

btw tenaglia was siiiiick. i got there around 3 after aura in pleasanton closed up, the entire place was packed upstairs and downstairs and there were people still coming in. i didn't see more than a handful of people in the club not dancing. around 4 or 5 i forget, he started getting harder and more progressive then he started laying down tracks from his two albums and the club was still filled upstairs and down. the dance floor thinned a little until the bars opened again. tenaglia was being hilarious mc'ing the whole night, made a tiest0r crack, but once they started serving alcohol he got really silly on the gogo stage for the cameras. i went outside at 8:30 for a smoke and decide i shouldn't go back in otherwise i might be there till 12. on the way home i thought about turning around

Posted by Clovis on Jan-08-2006 23:01:

Fuck I wanna see Tenaglia for 12 hours!

Oh well...Danny Howells on the 28th for 10 hours

Are you sure? I know they are saying Extended Set, but last time Avaland called something an extended set, it was Sander on NYE and it was 5 hours and then AHP took over... a part of Avaland's lame promoting making peeps think AVALAND last until 9am

That was NYE...but last time Danny was here he got his full night...there was no opener and he played from 9pm to sometime around 6 or 7 I believe. No AHP.

AHP just needs to die.

unbelievable...can't believe i missed it...what a shitty weekend to have to sacrifice for work...parties going that late reminds me soo much of the good old days

yeah tenaglia is quite a character, i think he was having the most fun of anyone. at one point he was swinging a footlong dildo around

Sounds like I picked the wrong place to go last night. I like Talla's productions, but man, that guy just cannot mix. Every transition made me cringe. And of course being at 1015, some assholes had to start a fight in the main room. *sigh*

Posted by R!CH on Jan-09-2006 02:36:

man that sucks, but 1015 go figure! btw, i think that mode hookers remix we heard from digweed was the sander van doorn remix.

Posted by DaveT on Jan-09-2006 03:20:

Well, Diggers might have another white label remix of the track because I have the SVD remix and I remember the remix Diggers played being better. I thought it was the SVD remix at the time but upon listening to it when I got home, just didn't sound the same...but maybe it was the Ruby sound system and the massive bass it was outputting that night (don't think I had ever heard Ruby's sound so loud before) and me not being able to feel that in my room making me think it's a different mix. SVD remix is awesome, though. ;P

I could have told you that. Think I was even telling Rich (lex400sc) how he wasn't so good as a DJ :-p

Posted by fury on Jan-09-2006 03:36:

I'll be sure to ask next time I'm in doubt. lol

Hahaha, that's because according to CLUB SYSTEMS INTERNATION, an industry publication, Ruby Sky added a new Sound System just before NYE. They replaced their six year old sound system with - ironically, a similar - EAW Sound System. They spent more than $60,000 on the new sound. They also added new amps, processors, and special equipment to make it sound nicer.

"The new sound system would debut NYE to a sold-out show with Bad Boy Bill."

"Ruby Sky closed the Saturday before NYE and the team arrived early the next morning to rip out the old system."

Posted by R!CH on Jan-09-2006 08:10:

hmm, i thought ruby skye had the eaw in place long before nye? oh well, nice to hear that something was upgraded since i last been there, but the latest upgrade must have included monitors that clip half the night

Posted by DaveT on Jan-09-2006 08:13:

Actually, the current EAW Avalon system was installed in December 2004, right after Tiesto played on Dec 15, 2004, and just before Bad Boy Bill played at NYE 2005.

Bad Boy Bill has played at Ruby Skye on NYE2005 and at NYE2006.

Ruby Skye's system before the EAW Avalon system was installed was ass. No bass, whatsoever. Whenever HUGE DJs came to town towards the end, they started bringing in Extra sound.

Honestly, they had a temp Funktion system installed at a point for demo...and I thought it was the best sound I'd ever heard in there. Was awesome. But they went with an EAW Avalon system.

Anyhow, I had heard of a few nights in the past where they had the system up SUPER loud, especially when the new system was installed....the sound this past weekend was certainly louder than usual, but I have heard it louder before. Digweed was just playing some bass-pounding tunes.

I didn't say anything because I didn't want anyone to be able to use the "you are saying that because Spundae is helping with Danny T at Ruby Skye the same night" crap I always seem to get.
