DJ name dropping is fun, but sad truth is, most of the people don't go out as much, a lot of them only 1-2-3 times a year, and don't support clubs on a regular basis or resident nights.

In order to take huge risks with undergound names, a club must be really healthy on a weekly basis. You ask a lot from the scene, promoters and club owners, but you really have to ask yourself how much you contributed to the party scene comparing to a few years ago.

People say there's not enough techno, but they don't show up when a good techno line-up is there. Some want more underground DJs, but few of them really goes out to see a Jeff Mills, and I doubt even that there would be a lot of people for DJ Rush if it wasn't a Ravemontreal party.

I brought Dave The drummer a year ago, it's funny to see is name in some lists, since that party was my lowest attendance.

While you are waiting and worshiping names that never came here (i'm not saying it wouldn't be good), those international DJs list to invite are getting bigger and bigger while there's very little love for the club itself or the local scene.

Well, it's just that when I see, example, Bal en Blanc wishlist entirely 100% International (except for Preach), you ask yourself if local DJs can't do the job or if people really like them or not.

I mean once you have 1 or 2 major international headliners, I don't think having 10 international will make it better a night, if you don't make people care for your local, they will not be there on a regular basis.

seriously though, creator, preach, and nick pilon would be freakin sick, than add in one or 2 int'nl djs...dont even have to be big ones, someone like nikolas harding...that would totally be a sick for beb.

I agree with this, however, I think that when a HUGE event, such as BEB comes around, it is an opportunity for most to see more than pone big name at the same event. This is why we ask for all the Big djs. But I think you're right in that sometimes we lose sight of our residents/locals, when it comes to large events....

would love to see some efforts put into gettin Niklas Harding over here...i'm dyin to see him live.

Big Events are not there to showcase local talents...

two big names and the rest local is not good enough in my opinion.

Bal en Blanc is prestigious and should stay that way, i don't mind seeing a couple of local talents to open and close... but more than that is too much.

People aren't paying big bux to see djs they can check weekly at afterhours.

Very well said Martin, but keep in mind that some of us do go out more than 2 or 3 times a year.I do not attend events every week as in the past, but as I get older i just cant do the after thing every week.(My body does not heal as quickly and i need my sleep)Bear in mind that we are able to support the scene by attending events or just goin out to clubs during the regular hours.As far as resident Dj's go I think in this city the clubs as well as the Dj's themselves do not promote themselves properly.IMO Aria for example could experience the vibe and crowds that it had during its strongest days again with a little more effort and a large attempt to go after the next generation of clubbers.Raise the cover, add a few little nice touches(aka cigarette girls @ Stereo or massage tables a la Circus)and people will start coming back.It might not be for the music (as many club goers go to have fun while being totally edm clueless)but at least the crowds would be there to have the chance to be won over by the dj.Im only talking about Aria here, but the reputation needs to be fixed.4 years ago i had no troubles finding accomplises to party with me there, now i am told the place is too sketchy if i even mention the name.Resident Dj's still have it good in this town compared to other North American cities.I have friends who spin and produce in cities like Orlando, they have talent that exeeds that of some of the residents in this city, but cannot really progress there because the scene is not as developped and mostly into breakbeat(they are prog dj's).I think people wanting to hear international big names more, because that is simply the type of music they will download.Get more resident sets to the people and maybe it will change.This is our scene, support it and it will grow, ignore it and it will go.

Here in Montreal we have one of the best resident dj selection of North America. I know a lot of Djs, and they always get good feedback from big headliners, when they open for them. So we don't need talent, we need promoters or managers that will take care of our djs, and sell them all around the world. It's really impressive that we don't have that much music buisness here in Montreal. How many local Label do you know? Now compare whit New York or London. I know those city have big demand for that kind of music, but Montreal is still one of the best City for Electronic music around the world. I think we should start more music buisness, but maybe we're not able to manage it??
