Interesting read Trance-X. Unfortunately, I'm rather pessimistic about our freedoms and liberties staying secure, given the current political climate (in particular this administration and neo-con dominance since Regan) . A larger contributing factor than any influential figure/group or political party is public apathy IMO. I think the latter is far more dangerous.

I hear you. Public apathy is definitely pathetic.

What a fine piece of irony that it is now illegal to own fireworks.

Happy 4th of July!

What I mean is this is a time of war, technically or not, it simply is a time of war. Do you think this is only happening cause Bush is in power? A patriot act of some sort would've been passed under any administration simply because it's a logical ingredient in homeland security. Now, perhaps it would've been more refined and no so...hmmm, fascist but some sort of version of the current patriot act would've been implemented anyways.

So, what i meant is that, be it Bush or someone else we must comprimise certain freedoms so that they can get their job done. Now, i'm against it all because this admin is way too shady and is no better than the enemy they are fighting. However, if Clinton was holding the reigns right now i wouldn't complain to much at all.

You don't find it strange that we've been in a "time of war" almost constantly for the last 60 years, with the exception of the Clinton years?

Also, the fact that you are saying that you'd give up your freedoms to someone else whom you don't even know to be competent... this mentality itself is the core of the problem surrounding this country's current ruining.

but yet I hear that Phantom Fireworks' business is still booming

I'm such a Libertarian, though. What I want is to be protected from my government, not from myself, damn it!!!

All of their legislation is murdering good ol' common sense.

Americans as a whole are too dumbed down by entertainment to care about their rights. The elitists have done a an excellent job of that. Our education system and its lag behind behind the rest of world is an example of this wholesale coup.

Wow, another post from the dead...

But it does remind me:

Raise a kid to be smart and eventually he'll figure out a cure for cancer. Something they don't want to happen.

Raise a kid to be stupid then eventually he'll figure out how to use ecstasy. Something they do want to happen.

Oh, if only we'd let the Discovery Institute meddle more in high-school biology then all of this could have been avoided!
