Also when will Rogers start offering CableCARD tech? Aren't we here in Canada like 5 years behind the USA in this stuff?

CableCards don't have two way communication yet, they can't offer any of the interactive stuff which I believe is one reason for the lack of it.

I'm not in Cable anymore, moved to media. I know that the boxes do take a moment to "flip", but that's how long the boxes take to deciper the pixels (digital info) (525 lines per 29.97 frames of video per second). Malek, how does that sound... did I do ok?

Our generation is used to immediate "now" but I'm sure you can be that patient...

The boxes are two way (they have the little card slots for credit cards), and they could ping boxes to see what you're watching, but privacy laws don't allow it.

Take it back and get the 8300HD with the PVR, I have no complaints with it so far.

Gotcha.

Also now, why aren't all HD broadcasts in 16x9? These grey bars that Sony LCDs put up on the sides are annoying as hell. 4:3 HD broadcasts seem redundant to me. The only 16x9 stuff I've got on here now is CityTV HD and PBS HD. I guess I've gotta go up a package to get the other stuff eh?

I want that box. I don't find much use for the PVR with the On Demand service and timeshifting. I love watching my corrie at 630 and being able to watch Jeopardy at 730! Gawd I'm a nerd.

THe fact that HD is not broadcast free over the airwaves is BS enough. I wanted to get a ATI HD Wonder when it came out, but realised it would be useless in Canada.

I've had no problems at all so far. I just rent it, rather than buy it.

Funny, I always thought you were in Montreal... your LOCATION says so, and you always post in the Montreal forum...

I think Sportsnet has the rights... it would depend if the source is feeding HD, 'cause we'd pick that up fer sher!

Actually, it's not completely useless in Canada. Especially if you live somewhere like Vancouver or Toronto. Basically somewhere close enough that you'd get reception to HD over the air signals. The reason I say Toronto and Vancouver in particular, is that you have a good chance of getting reception of the US OTA signals as well.

If you do a quick search, just google it, there's actually a lot of people up in the Toronto area using ATI's HDTV Wonder, it's just a question of whether or not your reception would be decent enough to warrant the trouble of ordering one and getting it shipped from the states depending on where you live in the GTA. If I recall, most of the Canadian OTA content is broadcast from antennae on the CN Tower.

Ah really? People that have similar models to my TV say that it's a Sony thing.

Eh.

I have the SONY WEGA 55 LCD rear-projection, the model number starts with KDF and ends with 655 I believe.

The grey bars on each side can be set on the box...i found it in some of the menus by sheer luck, after 4 months of having the setup.
