I called when I saw this yesterday in the paper. I've been thinking about quiting for a while and had even already set a tentative quit date (Feb.1st).

For those of you who are interested all you do is call and complete at telephone questionaire to determine your eligability and identify which method is more appropriate (gum or patch) based on serveral factors. They are sending me out the gum and information package via expresspost. My only hope is that the gum is the new flavoured kind cause if it tastes like crap I know I won't stick to it!

And to all those already in the process of quitting ..... congrats and best of luck!!!

i just commited fraud on two different levels.

pretending to be my brother, pretending to get it for my brother, but its really for my mom. it was kinda fun, making up facts about how often i smoke, yada, yada - i just gave answers that would support me getting the patch..... and guess what - I... i mean.... MY MOM.... i mean DAN QUALIFIED FOR THE PATCH!!!!

oh yeaaah.

the fraud was for a good cause though right?

i need to quit!! it started off casually smoking, then over the course of 4 years developed into a terrible addiction. My goal for the following year is to quit....but then going out drinking/clubbing/after smoking a joint..ughhhh all i want is a smoke. Im gunna try subsituting a smoke with gum, or something like that. we'll see what happens

my dad used to substitute smokes with stir sticks..... he would just sit there and chew the hell out of them until they resembled a tiny piece of shriveled beef jerky.

the positive: he quit smoking.

the negative: to the rest of society, he was a man in his early 40's, struck with a bad case of rabies, who took his anger out on stir sticks by ultimately chewing them to apparent death.

i've already started substiting smokes with baby carrots. lol. Healthy ,and delicious

depends on what kind of 'carrots' you speak of.

all my uncles (on my dads side), use 'carrot' as a code name for 'doobie' when going out to spark one.

No matter what happens to everyone please dont start chewing tobacco.
And worse please don't start chewing tobacco and doing cocaine at the same time.
As per our conversation last week at the 613 we decided that that habit would be very dangerous.

fuck. what a drip that would produce.

i'd imagine very gnarly, and gravy like.

Actually just an FYI for those planning on going on the patch ..... prepare yourself for about 45 minutes of extreame itch and burning sensation under the area of the patch when you first put it on. It's extreamly irritating but it will pass.

And for the guys ...... try to put it on a relatively hairless area or else your gonna be waxing yourself everytime you take one off!

My New Year's Resolution is to quit smoking and i haven't gone cold turkey yet but somewhat successful in fighting off the cravings. Use to go for a smoke break 3 times in a work day, here there this week I'll go down for like one. Slowly and surely I won't feel the need to have a smoke anymore.

Posted by Cribby on Jan-13-2006 19:31:

I have successfully encouraged 3 people to stop in the past year. Time for some more! I've never touched a cig in my life and I never will.

Good luck with that. In my own personal experience, cutting down slowly to nothing just doesn't work. You'll only encourage stronger cravings later.

Hey this is my 1st post just had to respond to this one.

There's this book called " How to stop smoking" by some guy named Allan Carr. Read it. It works. $10 at any book store. Everyone I know that read it quit.

It just makes u feel really stupid for smoking and gives u the mental tools to overcome the pangs. Puts everything u already know down on paper and it's in ur face.

Posted by neuromancer on Jan-13-2006 22:59:

actually it is very easy to quit smoking, i have done it like a dozen times now :-)
