Oh yeah, one more thing. 400 is a perfect capacity for OC. You also gotta remember that the trance/EDM crowd are not big drinkers. So even if you sell out, and they're not consuming, the bar will not be making money and more than likely the owner will only let you do it a few times until he makes money or gives up.
Again, GOOD LUCK.

Seems for each positive comment on this we get one negative one...
Well, $4500 is %75 promotion dude... I'm not paying anything to the club as far as rent. But if I do something, I want to do it well, and one thing for sure : it will be a great show.
In general, people in O.C. are ignorant. They don't even have a clue what Trance really is. Blame that on Club Rubber, Asia 101 and Club M of back in the day for that : they've been playing tech-trance, hard trance and stuff that give even me headaches after 20 minutes...
$4500 still seems too steep. Sorry bro. As far as the OC crowd being to "ignorant," well, you should watch your words cuz I know lots of them LURK this board.
As a matter of fact, did you know that 35% of clubbers at Spundae and Avalon are from OC? There are several successful events in OC - I'm not saying yours is not going to be. Look at Focus and Bristol Sessions. They both been running for several years now. There's been several successful nights in downtown Santa Ana that have gone til 6am as well. You just have to promote to the right people.
Friday nights I DJ in Anaheim at a place called Xalos. It sells out every week with almost 1000 people. Did you know that that place is 30% Trance? Yeap! It's a mixed club and Trance gets played 30% of the night. Spanish Rock & Hip Hop make up the other 70%. That can be said for OC as well. OC will like and listen to trance, they just don't want to hear it all night. That's why events that offer mixed music are successful.
BTW, I'm not trying to give you $hit. Actually, I'm just sharing my experiences with you. That's why I'm saying that $4500 is too steep. I have been in this game too long, I have lost and made numerous amounts of money in this game.
Again, GOOD LUCK bro. I mean it.
No worries
I really appreciate your information and each experience, succesful or not, is an experience I learn from.
About my comment regarding O.C. people : you have no idea how many people I talk to that don't even know there's trance with vocals or even melodic trance... They all think trance is a bunch of noise (which it is if all you know is Rubber and the like), but once they tune-in to my radio show and give it a chance, they all thank me for changing their mind about trance and actually love it.
All I can say for now is we will definitely beat G & D's score at Blue (we already have).
Oh man don't bring up G&D at Blue...that was such a last minute thing it's not even funny! I was going because I wanted to hear dance music, I found out 2 hours before I left that Gene Ferris didn't make it and they booked G&D instead.
But yeah good luck, Woody and I had 2 different clubs out in Anaheim, Midi & Element...it's tough to get people to come out, just make sure you have awesome promoters
I'm only bringing up G&D at Blue because it was mentioned, I didn't even know they had been in O.C...
As far as promoter, I'm the one trying to do everything myself, so there's no telling what the outcome will be, all I can do is do my best and what I'm doing here is to try to invoke O.C. Trance people's sense of community to help...

I will definitely take advantage of the offers should I attempt another Trancefused, but let's focus on the event at hand right now, don't you agree ?
There's nothing that can be done about the flyers or the fact that too much money was spent now, is there ?

Just wanted to say that I appreciate everyone's comments and that I thank anybody that wants to help me, be it this time or next.
Let's see if the trance community here in O.C. grabs an opportunity when they see one. As said before, this will be another place for local DJs to play if it lives on...

cheers, and good luck...

Good going
Thanks man, anything helps.
We'll know the outcome of this real soon now.
See you all tonight, to those of you that are coming out to show your support!
Looks like there's actually going to be a nice TA turnout, with some people that haven't been out in a while. Hope you can come party with us!

i just checked groove and they say its sold out!
Hope this goes well!
I'm all about spreading the trance sound.
me too. and i am all for getting something going locally here in orange county.
Well, we now have the verdict
We didn't quite make the cut, as we had about 230 people showing up, but there was a great atmosphere and everybody I was able to talk to left the place happy. We definitely had a high-quality show.
I wasn't able to mix videos since my hard drive with all the videos crashed, but I got the dance floor prepared for Kristina Sky by playing a progressive set and bringing the dance floor to pretty much full capacity.
So I would say very positive feedback but considering I lost almost $3000 and spent literally hundreds of hours of work, I am doubtfull I will try O.C again, unless an investor is interested.
With the amount of promotion that we had, we would have had a much bigger turn-out in L.A., S.F. or S.D., so I'm afraid O.C. will stay hip-hop for now
damn. that sucks. i guess we are stuck with having no OC events. oh well. what can we do.
I bet a lot of more people would have shown up if it were a 18+ club.
btw, e-motion...
I listen to one of your live mix, and I have to say that they are really good. Keep up the good work dude. I'm sure next time they will be a bigger turn out in OC :]
Another reason OC is not that popular for EDM is the club hours....closing before 2:00 am. compared to Spundae, Avalon, Vanguard....etc. in LA.

Ok, guys, here's some good news for you if you're in the O.C. or just care about trance in the O.C.
Out of nowhere people have been offering their help after seeing what I was able to pull off all by myself with Trancefused #1 last saturday in Costa Mesa.
In addition to that, we got 100% positive feedback from the club goers that were there that night and they have been asking when is the next Trancefused...
So, with that said, get ready for the next Trancefused (date to be set soon) and this time show your support damn it, there's only so many times I can lose money.
Pictures of the last Trancefused (more coming soon) are on http://groups.myspace.com/trancefused
dammit e-motion, i love the enthusiasm!
