I take much comfort and solace in the fact that all the 'underground purists' are so unhappy on their high horses

I'd ask if they've forgotten how to enjoy themselves, but the bigger question is whether they've ever enjoyed themselves to begin with.

Chin stroking, blatently a form of elitist-edm-masturbation

Posted by Synthesia on Jan-19-2006 16:23:

Although Tiesto is overhyped it is wrong to say it is 'just dj' worship, I find it quite insulting to dj's who have produced 10s and 100s of tracks...anyways...

LOL at the pic

Not the masses, at any rate. The music was never meant for them; they were never meant to enjoy it at that level, and they don't possess the intellectual cognizance to even try, anyway.

To be underground is to be in a state of constant digging. Those who know will come. Those who understand will coalesce and unite with like-mindeds. As for the unwashed normals, they can proceed to have their concert-DJ things and pretend that they're getting real genuine culture, but we all know it is a facade. The essence of the culture passes through them like a seed passing undigested through the body of a bird. They'll never gain any sustenance from something they'll never quite understand nor enjoy the purpose of.

The TAZ is about annihilating the outside world of social pretentiousness; the mores, the norms, the personal space and common ethics and morality that people accept without question. It is about shattering the sense of self. The anarchy is entirely internal. It is solipsist freedom, if you can think of it that way.

I don't expect anyone to understand this, and quite frankly, I don't care if they do. No one can touch us. No one can see us. Selfless hedonism is the goal, for without the sense of self, the party does not exist.

For some, this is just too arbitrary for them to grasp. They need something physical, something objective and real to cling on to. They need something to party for: A reason, a purpose, a justification for why they are there or what they are spending their money on. The DJ is perfectly apt as a placeholder, an excuse, a safety net, a comfort zone, a necessary crutch to refocus one's value. And when these values are compounded, he becomes a foci, an epoch, a conduit to channel these wasteful energies. He becomes the controller of your reality. He determines your existence, your placement, your power. It is, in effect, a form of emotional slavery. Where once the DJ was a techno-shamen, engaged in a delicate, controlled dance with the revellers....now he has become the taskmaster, whipping the populace into a frenzy with gimmicks and bombast.

Some might not think that anything's wrong with this, and they are free to think that. But believe me when I say that they are doing themselves a serious disservice when they do so. They are cutting themselves short, in way that is a detriment to their overall mental health.

But, then again.......no one ever said partying was healthy.

just out of curiosity, where do drugs fit in that picture in your opinion?

Posted by weymouth on Jan-19-2006 16:42:

Uhm, incase you all didnt know this isnt some cyber-punk fictional book you are living in, it's the real world. People go out to have fun after a stressful week, not to go join some edm cult hoping to overthrow society. Get a grip on reality.

Posted by Synthesia on Jan-19-2006 16:48:

Who actually cares whether it is small enough to be categorised as underground in some parts of the world, or large enough to be called commercial and enjoyable by the masses (even though it is not like that in any part of the world).

Just enjoy it and live it

Posted by SyPsych0 on Jan-19-2006 18:45:

It's not a dream, it's reality. Going to a club after a long, hard week and dancing to the music is good but going to a concert to listen to a DJ and hoping in an overcrowded hall is like drinking the glass instead of water...Do zou go to the club to have fun with zour friends, no matter who thez are or do u just listen to a popstar? Music is more than a well-selling CDs, it's something spiritual and club should be a place where u can be free, where u can let ur feelings go out of your body, where u can be you and not someone else (of course, u should be always you ) Dance to the music, don't just be a fan...

Posted by Zombie0915 on Jan-19-2006 22:08:

people be reading a bit too much into the things I am writing, we aren't talking reality here, we are speaking of ideals and goals.

The fun of partying is in manifesting those dreams that we all have, of course we aren't requiring that everybody be a cult hell-bent on overthrowing society, it is an ideal, it is the aspect of the event that we enjoy and nothing more.

There is a certain spirit present at the right events and many of us are constantly persuing it because that is where the fun comes from. Not that other people are wrong to just enjoy some heedless drunken flailing on their weekends, its just that there is something more out there that we have become attached to.

Many people find relaxation in events that are opposite of thier daily lives, but many events are rapidly turning into an exageration of our daily lives rather than an escape from it, it isn't about underground or commercial or exclusivity or the amount of people that know about a thing, but the spirit of the gathering. It is hard to go crazy when there is a mob of people waiting to point and laugh and alienate, so rather than an event beaing a place where you can get that release of going crazy in public, it is just another everyday experience where you must repress your desires in order for the people around you to accept you. A party is supposed to be a person's escape from that kind of stuff.

Posted by Ishkur on Jan-21-2006 16:27:

Nothing is true; everything is permitted.

Yes, having fun is the aim. Everyone should be allowed to have fun. In whatever fucking way they choose.

If you can be told how to enjoy yourself, how to have your fun, in a neat, clean little package, for the sake of safe and compliant leisure conformity, then it comes to pass that you can be told what to say and how to think. True ontological anarchy isn't at odds with the product itself (as some in this thread erronously brought up), but rather who controls it, and who tells you what you can or can not do with it.

We go to have fun. Having fun entails maximising personal pleasure, using whatever means for whatever ends. Because nothing is true; everything is permitted. When you have your fun--fun that entitles you to pay for it, fun that is only in limited locations, fun that is deliberately bottlenecked and sold to you piecemeal, fun that you are only permitted to enjoy under certain conditions, fun that can not be had without authoritative approval....

Is it really your fun?

More fun than you ever have

In much the same way a dog enjoys the few crumbs that fall off the buffet table or an infant's delight in the game of peek-a-boo, I concur.

Yeah who cares.

I don't think it matters why you're at the party. Wether you're a first timer or a 10 year rave veteran I don't think we should continue with this crap of "It's not like it use to be".
This topic is never gonna end and it occurs everywhere down here in Oz included.
No offence but it is basically just people bitchin about something they think they own.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Jan-22-2006 01:39:

ffs, alot of the people in this thread are too young to be nostalgic about this and aren't your typical "not like it used to be" bunch.

assumptions are being made that are not appropriate.

just read the friggin book:
http://www.hermetic.com/bey/taz_cont.html

That thing talks about the desire some of the kids here are talking about. It explains the source of fun we are persuing and just how great that experience can be. It is such a crazy book, probabaly futile to try and explain it to sane people.

I dont see anything wrong with Trance being commercialized.

Money is the biggest motivator.

Better than as miserable as some of you lot.

edmo, lol

Posted by Purple on Jan-22-2006 18:57:

I feel that the perception about Trance in people's mind is changing. Its no more solely associated to some cult rave party in dark remote places. Instead it is being more accepted as a party music, which I feel is a good thing.

And these old people who used to go to raves feel out of place in this new trance events at posh clubs and discs.

They say they had better enjoyment in dark isolated Rave events, but today people like it in posh clubs with laser lights and smokes and faom and water parties and chicks.

As for the drugs, you still get it in parking lot. lol
