I am the queen of having nightmares and bad dreams. Usually they are so bad that they actually put me in a bad mood most of the day. I find it's only when I am stressed or have a lot on my mind before I go to sleep.
The most common one which has happened a lot the last couple of months, is seeing an image or a hand of someone's beside my bed. This is usually 15 mins after I have closed my eyes. It's so real and freaky that I actually think someone or a spirit is in my room As I open my eyes the hand or shadow becomes even more apparent in the dark
If you have nightmares or bad dreams a lot, I read it's a good idea to replay the last bad dream in your head before you go to sleep the next night. When the bad part happens in the dream mentally picture your own good version of the dream and usually that dream won't continue again. They say bad dreams are just a continuation of the previous bad dream and they always are telling you about something going on in your life that you need to deal with.
Dreams fascinate me

I get those way too often...sometimes even when I'm not sleeping on my back. I'll feel like I'm falling and then my legs will twitch and I'll jump lol

Hahahahah, those are awesome, especially when other people are around. Falling asleep in a chair or something, movie, airplane, get the jolt.

Anyone able to recognize while dreaming that it is in fact a dream and force yourself to wake up? I can sometimes, or at least that's what it feels like to me.

Posted by StereoPrincess on Jan-19-2006 22:56:

I haven't had a nightmare in a really long time. In fact I can't remember the last dream I had. I used to have really fun and fucked up scary dreams.

Oh dreams where have you gone?

But Hilary, if this thread described the exact same dream as Jon had, I would have been sooooo creeped out. Seriously.

I do get those jolts when I fall asleep and it's usually feels like I was falling but nothing in the world beats the jolts that Ray gets. Holy shit! It's like the biggest twitches in the world.

I get some pretty intense nightmares every so often. Used to get them alot about 2 years ago where I would dream that my ex (who died) somehow came back to life and came after me. I would usually start thrashing (from what I've been told) and when poor Carlos would try to wake me up by shaking me, that would freak me out even more.

Now I only get the occasional one every so often. My main problem is falling asleep and not 10 mins later waking up wondering where I am. I'm usually so confused that I get really scared for a couple of minutes trying to figure out where exactly I am. I don't know why I get those but it's really annoying and freaky

Oh and I get the electric jolts too... but usually it's when I just fell asleep and dreamed I was tripping on something LOL Legs tend to fly out when that happens

I get both. One feels like an electric shock going through my body. The other is a limb moving as a result of dreaming (while I'm half awake) of tripping over something.

Sleep paralysis really sucks. For the people who who get it, you should read up on it. There have been some very interesting papers written on the subject.

I've had that happen a couple of times, though not with the sense of impending doom or the inability to breathe that most people seem to get. When it happens to me I'm just acutely aware of the fact that I can't get up and either can't see or can't open my eyes, which was a little scary the first time but now is just very very strange.

Ironically, though, those few episodes of sleep paralysis were a major catalyst for lucid dreams, so it doesn't completely suck. Since sleep paralysis is essentially the same paralysis that happens in REM sleep, it was easier - at least for me - to remember that sensation once it had happened in a waking state and recognize it in my sleep (particularly during a nightmare).

The worst one yet...which came back not too long ago: me thinking I'm being possessed...laying in bed (on my back)...i'm awake (or at least I believe I am), for some reason I can't move my arms/legs or anything, nor can I open my mouth to talk no matter how hard I try...then I feel something creeping up at the end of the bed, and it feels like it will just walk onto the bed and crush it (like in Exorcism of Emily Rose)...somehow got enough strength to move my arm and it was all over

interesting.

i do sleep facing the roof most of the time and have had similar nightmares/dreams. being totally paralized and awake, usually nothing happens but i remmember particularly one time when i heard a metallic sound righ next to my right ear.. yuk .. crippy :-) ..

I believe I 'wake up' at least 4 times (during an episode), each time being more real than the last. And this is always accompanied by a dark force either touching me, whispering, towering over me etc. The worst part for me, is the unexplainable surge I get through my body whenever this happens...like electricity. WEIRD I know

Not weird at all...
I used to get these a lot as a young kid...and you're explaining it EXACTLY!

I can't say I get them anymore but sure do remember them!

They were so bad for me that I couldn't even sleep in my own bed. I'd sneak round the house in the middle of the night, play with the cat, find something else to do until I convinced myself that my blankets were a good enough shield from the evil swirling in the corner of my room...

i've had sleep paralysis on numerous occasions. the first time it happened was one of the most frightening experiences i've ever had. it creeps me out still to think about it.

the last nightmare i had was that i had killed prince charles and couldn't get rid of the body and i woke up terrified that i had actually killed him and was going to jail.

I wake myself out of dreams all the time. The most scary ones for me, and thats why they're nightmares is when I can't wake myself up, or I can't "fly" out of the dream from the bad guy!

I get that time to time. I kind of learned how to fight it when it does happen.

Can you suggest any specific papers???

Has anyone had a lucid dream?

They're the kind where you can control everything that happens in them. I used to have them when I was younger they were pretty cool!

Sign me up!

(for a few nightmarish dreams, haven't had one in years)

hahaha I've been having this happen to me for years now. The worst episode was when I had my face in another pillow and couldn't move. I thought I was gonna suffocate and was afraid to go back to sleep afterwords. Needless to say I no longer sleep with two pillows. That episode was just plain freaky.

Has anyone else been dreaming or having a nightmare and realized it while it was occurring? I was having a nightmare when I was younger (Night of the Living Dead) and when I was about to die I realized I was dreaming. I could then control my dream and all of a sudden I had super powers and was kicking zombie ass! Ever since then during some random dream Ill realize Im dreaming and be able to control that dream. Is this weird? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

That is so awful, im so sorry.

I cant believe you actually die in your dreams, shocking. I've always heard that it's impossible to die in your dreams because it would mean you've died in reality aswell. Weird, must be some urban myth i've been believing for years.

Also, unlike most who have posted I seem to dream most when I am relaxed and at ease with my life. When Im stressed I just pass out and don't dream at all.

I'm pretty sure that is just an old wives tale... but come to think of it all the nightmares i have where i'm the one in trouble i can't seem to remember one where i can actually see myself dead.... just like dying i guess... appearently it just means your subconcious is having a hard time.. makes sense since i usually have the nightmares when i'm having like an emotional time or somthing

thanks for your concern though!!

Wholy shit.. This happened to me the other night.

Scared the bejesus outta me.

Posted by Tygon on Jan-20-2006 17:31:

I used to have such detailed "nightmares" that I began writing them down. They became a personal project to me and eventually turned into my OAC independant study called "Nightmares of Judas McCrae"...

These dreams went on for so long that Judas became my alter ego (no, not split personality, wise-guy). You'll see to this day that I always have an affiliation with regards to the battle between Good and Evil... The story of Judas McCrae was where it all began.

"I never fear my nightmares... but rather embrace them as a journey into my darker reflection... I find power within their endlessness..." -Judas McCrae

Yeah the first time it happened to me it was terrfying!

No when it happens It's not much of a shock. Cause I can fight them

If you force your body to move you can get out of it.
