I never played that, so can't say anything about it; but you have to admit choppy visuals will lead to a decreased atmosphere. The whole "involved-in-the-world" aspect will kinda be lacking.

man, ive been playing games for more than 20 years, so visuals have bever been that important to me. its a shame that in today's age thats about all thats improving with games.

yes, choppy visuals are bad, which is why i question companies that release games that need super PCs to run them smoothly. if the graphics are that integral to the game, more often than not theyve left out something else.

each to their own, and tbh FPS have gotten pretty tired for me, i just didnt think FEAR was anywhere near as good as everyone seems to think.

I have been gaming for a while too...I didn't say graphics are important to me, I was saying that in a game like FEAR they are important...because the developers based their game on good graphics. On another note, I think FEAR is a well-done game in the gameplay department as well.

well not everybody thinks the same way, but I on the other hand, agree.
I have a friend and before he starts playing the game he goes to the graphic settings. spends an hour on getting it "all right" : the water has to look like real water and stuff ( you know who you are!)
In my opinion: just play the damn game! it's the story and the gameplay that has to make a difference in games, not just awesome graphics (allthough they are cool)

For PC games I want good graphics; after all it is a powerful machine! On consoles, its all about the gampeplay too me

My PC is running this game pretty well... the only thing holding it back a bit is my 9800 (which will be getting an upgrade very shortly). All I had to do was turn the shadows off... which was fine for me, cuz the textures and models already have shadows designed into them... so it didn't impact the graphics TOO badly. It means I can still have high textured effects/graphics/textures and the game will still run pretty smooth.

I'm finding the game to be very unique... when I first saw it, I assumed it'd be another Quake/HL rip off... not worth me even trying a demo... but I was wrong. Being a gamer coming straight from COD2, my expectations were set pretty high (cuz I loved how COD immerses you into the action - graphics not being comapred here). Though I'm finding the level design to be unoriginal and predictable, the AI of the baddies is making up for it. They no longer simply duck, stand, shoot, duck in the same location... they now speak to one another and plot a counter attack while covering each other pretty well. Reminds me of HL this way.

The other element that's really bringing me into the game is the visions and apparitions... and the little girl that's been haunting me. She appears in some strange places that have certainly had my heart skip a beat or two. Even Q3's dark athmosphere and zombie-baddies never had heart never studdering like it is with this game. Q3 was far more stereotypical. Perhaps this is just matter of taste and what scares each person differently.

I'm only a few levels in... but I can see myself getting hooked on this game. The model movement is smooth and realiztic, physics are unreal, weapons are great, and the slow-mo is a nice added touch. I'm looking forward to trying this online once I finish the game... I bet it's chaos.

Looking forward to trying it on the new 21" HD widescreen LCD i just bought last night too!!! WOOT!!!

Hmmm, tell me why its funny - mabye because it came from my thoughts lol.

coz its the PCs that generate the better gameplay games moreso than the cookie-cutter console market and why youd make distinctions between what you want from each and every game based on what system its on is a bit questionable.

PC can never have the awesome gameplay of such games as FF 5.

wtf? PC INVENTED roleplaying games.

the only thing consoles do better than PCs is fighting games and theyre easy for any idiot with half a brain to use.

I don't like those roleplaying games...too cheesy..consoles overall provide great gaming experience for me. PCs only fix my FPS love; but there is always Halo.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Feb-09-2006 01:50:

halo. what a piece of shit. the only reason that game got such reviews is coz it was being played by morons who had never played a PC FPS

lol @ too cheesy. you dont know what youre missing mate. neverwinter nights for example, was a true rpg classic. and ive played a lot of them, including the first ones that came out on consoles

I don't like neverwinter nights; and I do play PC FPS--especially UT 2004 and Battlefield.

Best at

Console:
Martial combat games
Sports
Racing

PC:
FPS especially
City Building games
everything else

my views anyway

^^ nah, not for racing. essentially the only way to compare consoles & PCs are playing the same games across platforms. in my reasonably wide experience i have yet to play a non fighting game that was better on a console. (hahaha, i played BF2 on the xbox the other day. man i laughed my arse off).

and in terms of racing, the PC has a long long line of first-class sims. the only racing game ive seen that was excellent that didnt also see a PC release was grand turismo.

ultimately, the trend for consoles\' insides to become more and more like a PC should really end this debate. PCs are better, thats why they cost more & run better. doesnt mean consoles arent good or dont have good games, and ive owned many a console.

I guess not, I like a controller better than the keyboard-mouse when racing

Hurt my eyes? Nah it's BEAUTIFUL! I love it... it's a Gateway monitor... one of the best specs in a monitor I found for under $1000.... you can see it here: Picture here (sorry for big pic) - It's far enough back that it doesn't hurt my eyes. I just finished building my office/studio last night... it's all sound proofed too, so I'm pretty excited to turn out the lights, CRANK up some FEAR and go nuts! (that's a 12" sub to my left there... makes for some huuuuuge explosions )

I really enjoyed the graphics and gameplay of FEAR. I was able to play it on a high-end system, so I got the advantage of high settings. What I like the least about it though is that you have to hit the use button to climb up ladders and it takes so long to climb up it.

The multiplayer for it is amazing as long as you find a server without any hackers.
