Are these poles really correct, as there has been many people in here that actualy do not beilve so.

My point is basically he may not be the best DJ or his rank may be acurate but if you look at what someone like him has done for the entrie scene from day one and then actualy judge him, I would say that he would get alot more votes than people give him credit for.

No matter what anyone says for the last 7 years (before some people even had hair on their nuts in here) he has constantly been bringing good DJ's to LA. The fact that After Hour Power isnt what it used to be any more is not his fault it is the scenes and lack of numerous things making what we all beleive in an up hill battle.

I guess to each their own to really define what actually the scene is.

Well he ought to re-examine afterhour power then.

Just look at the crowd that comes to it.

Its night of the living crackheads in Avalon after 5am. Not like the crackheads we all claim to be on here, not the ones we joke about. I'm talking REAL LIFE INSANE PEOPLE who I did not know even existed before I attended an AHP event...

Not to mention, like we've said 87893465786238947 times, they do a terrific job of completely destroying the vibe and atmosphere created by some of the worlds biggest DJs and bring it crashing down via runaway freight train that wrecks itself through 15+ hard trance that sounds like it was produced in about 5 minutes using ACID.

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 05:47:

Yeah but Clovis this is only your opinion. What about people who actually like that stuff or what about all the DJ's he has broguht in the past. You sit here and just think if it isn't a pure house night it is not quality. But I can star naming DJ's he has brought that in any other club people wouldnt say shit. Mauro, Gielen, Marco V, Askew, Halliwell, John 00, Darey, The list goes on and on and on 7-8 years long.

Yes I can agree with you in the last 3-4 year the crowd has been going down hill as the old generation has some what matured and just can't stay up that late any more and as well as all the asian trance lovers going week in and week out but I can assure you back in the day it was the best thing LA had to offer and even before then when those guys did Key Club was the fucking best time of alot of peoples lives. You just havent really been around that long to see what he has done.

You are allowed to have an opinion but to clearly base it on the amount of time you have beenn clubbing as not really fair.

The day you have people like Pam Anderson, Carmen Electra, Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman,Tommy Lee, numerous other famous people, almost every DJ that has played in LA showed up at a party that you have thrown, then it might be safe to say what a shit person someone is or what they havent done for the scene.

This is my BIAS opinion

To be fair, I was at an AHP with Mauro Picotto, it was pretty sweet. And I remember the first time I went to Avalon was for Danny Howells, Tigo and I stepped outside for a cigarette, when we went back in Danny was gone and it had become "Clubcrasher/AHP". The atmosphere was so different I thought I had walked into a different club . Turned out to be John Askew...THAT was cool.

But, NYE was unacceptable...just aweful. And the past few times i've been to AHP it's been scary, like Clovis said...insane people

AHP REPRESENT!!

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 06:12:

Plus have you ever thought that maybe the people who actually run Avalon are trying to get the other crowd in to make more money as that is the goal of a venue. I am not an venue owner but if I was it would be more profitable to try and turn the crowd over 2 times in a night rather than just not have any one else pay from 1 am on. This does sound logical.

Either way everyone has an opinion and especially on an issue like this nobody is really right. You like who you like and dis like who you dis like.

For my self I love trance and even hrader trance, house is some what ok, and drum and bass you'll find me with a shot gun in my mouth with my foot on the trigger, but that just my opinion.

One thing I fully agree upon is that fucking photo that Bas put up was the funniest thing I have seen all month!

Posted by bas on Jan-24-2006 06:14:

These guys too...

Good point Sol, I'm sure that Avalon is making a KILLING on the AHP crowd. Isn't it like $50 to get in?

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 06:18:

Yeah you are right dude when Piccotto was playinjg at the 2 or 2 year anniversery that place was off the fucking hook and the crowd was just as good as any night any club has ever had. Back in the first 2 years every night was just the same, bumping, hot women, good looking crowd and no crack head.

Clovis does have a point and I fully agreee, there are zombies walking aorund in there but what else do you expect at 6-7-8-9- am anywhere. Most people that have lives start drinking or partying at 10pm and the only people left at 6am, well you know the rest.

I have notcied as wlel in the last 5-6 years that the scene has been starting to party earlier and earlier and people are not statying out as late as they used too.

Alot has changed in the last 5 years this is for sure!

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 06:22:

Yup Avalon is certainly some of the reason the music changes and wants more of banigng music. They need to keep people going, buying Red Bulls, Water, ect ect. I am willing to bet that Avalon makes another 20k each week if not more with the After Hour crowd. $20,000 times 52 weeks, dans thats alot of Gouda any way you dice it.

Dude where do you get these photos seriuosly, that guy looks like he stole my sisters tank top!

Posted by DjWoody on Jan-24-2006 06:34:

See... I've been partying / Djing longer than most people in this scene. Since 1992, to be exact. I did used to go to After Hour Power back in the day. Actually, one of my most memorable nights was when AHP brought Mauro for the first time at the old PALACE. I still remember that night like it was yesterday. I do give AHP props for putting some of the best productions in LA. But this, however, is not about AHP/Gatecrasher; it's about the two men behind it. As a DJ's they're not the greatest on this earth, and their music is not my favorite. It never has been. As promoters they earn my respect for being able to pull some of the hottest women in LA. But honestly, Glam in OC is pulling some hot girls too. Remember Guzman? Eyecandy Ent.? He brought some hot woman too. He brought them before Castro or DTJ did. But its not about that; it's about their DJs and their talents as such.

NYE was going perfect until DTJ Took over. Did you notice how many people left? Did you noticed how fucked up DTJ was that he kept stopping the music? He kept stopping it and the crowd would look at each other puzzled.

Like you said, it all boils down to personal preference. Many of you don't like ATB, yet he's #10 in the WORLD! I thought he kicked ass at Spundae, but some thought otherwise. It's the same thing. I don't like DTJ as a DJ, but Im sure he has his fans the same way I have mine.

THAT IS MY BIASED OPINION BASED ON FACTS BY MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES BY AHP/GATECRASHER.

Like I said, maybe it was great, but now AHP = shit.

Also for the record I really dont care what genre they play, in fact trance or psy after 5 is fine by me...just GOOD TRANCE and good music. I would actually love to hear a different genre than the headliner...but it has to be done right....

As long as they make a smooth transition from whatever the other guy is playing, IMO its perfect.

There are so many sick trance DJs in LA, I dont understand how someone like DTJ gets gigs.

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 06:43:

Well I just have to stick up for them as they do not read these forums and they are actualy friends of mine and I have had alot of good times with them. I am sure anyone here would do the same.

I cannot aruge with the fact about the crowd going down hill at all, trust me unless I am whacked (which happens a few times each year) or sometime actually wanting to hear good msuic, by 3am I am in bed wanting to feel good on Sunday.

I wish it was 2000 all over again and every second car was blasting 9pm til I come and Sand Storm all dfown the sunset strip. Belive it or not those were the days when alot more people listened to EDM.

Agree!!!! Those were some good times. But even more so, I wish it were the early 90's. That was the best years of my life. I had so many good times, so many memories. Just watch the movie Groove. That movie parallels my life back in the days.

Richard Humpty Vission once told me... "DON'T GET STUCK IN THE PAST. THOSE WHO GET STUCK IN THE PAST, STAY IN THE PAST. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FUTURE." That has to be one of the most memorable lessons I learned in this scene.

I used to always compare the past scene to the current one, but theyre both way different and unique in their own way. What made us WOW once is now making people WOW for their first time. For many, the scene today is their best years of their lives. For us, it's in the past. We're getting burned out cause we've practically seen it all! Lol.. WE'RE OLD D00D!!! lol

Sincerely
- Don Woody

Posted by R!CH on Jan-24-2006 07:01:

it's not that the 5am AHP crowd likes what's being played, it's that they're too fucked up to care about mixing and track selection. as long as they can feel a beat washing through their body at 120db, they'll spin cycle it to just about anything....

Posted by Shafer8 on Jan-24-2006 07:05:

Yeah Woody exactly you hit it on the nose! This is why Clovis totally had a point and so does everyone else. it just really bugs me sometimes when people shit on Steve as no matter what anyone says he is and always has been a pillar in this community for EDM and its music.

Either way in each of our own minds we all have had an era which sticks out. Sandstorm, 9pm and even the Launch when they used to be played EVERYONE would go ape shit. Now a day I think if someone was to play them they would get laughed at by people like Clovis (which is not an insult) but alot of people in here know damn well that those track were solid back in the day.

What are the others actually lets bring back some memmories?
