Derrick Carter
[[ LINK REMOVED ]]

Bio

Born and raised in the western suburbs, Carter was into music from a young age, but during his teens Chicago's house scene sucked him in for good. Before long Carter became a strong presence in the city's underground dance scene.

His sets are rooted in house, but he freely travels outside club tastes, seamlessly incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz, and whatever else catches his fancy. Most of the time he works in Europe, where he's become a minor celebrity among dance-music aficionados.

Why I picked this set

For a long while, I was someone who listened to ONLY hard/dark/dirty house. In November 2004, at Sneak's Birthday Beats, I was shown the wonderful world of Chicago House. While there, Mark Farina and especially Derrick Carter made me see the light. Not only did the music at this party open my eyes to what was to me a foreign genre of house, it also opened my eyes to another kind of party. I was amazed by the vibe, the dancers, and especially the hot women all around.

While my favourite house is still the dark and dirty stuff, I am now enjoying the lighter side of house. I bring you this Derrick Carter set so that hopefully I can see some of you guys out at Chicago House parties. It's not what you're used to, but give it a try.

About the set

Derrick Carter incorporates all different sounds into his set tech, electro, disco, progressive, etc., but the whole time makes sure to keep one thing constant funk. You can be sure that your upper lip will be curled, one eyebrow will be raised and you will be bopping your head for the majority of this set. The reason I love Derrick Carter so much is because most funkier house DJs are stereotyped to be too soft. This can be true, but by listening to this set, you will quickly realize that Derrick Carter does not fit this stereotype. He plays a lot of harder tracks while keeping the funk steady.

I haven't heard any of his sets yet, or even seen him live but he's always been one of the DJ's that I really wanna see.

You'll definately see me at a Derrick Carter party sooner or later

I believe the the Satoshi set uploaded is a commercial set. I have it, I believe it's a GU cd, but I'm sure I've got it somewhere.
